Taper after switching over from Xanax to Valium

I'm currently taking 0.125 to .25 mg of Xanax a day for anxiety and the inability to fall back to sleep after waking in the middle of the night.

I've found a chart that converts Xanax to Valium and it would seem 1 mg of Valium is about the right starting point but could use some advice on tapering down the Valium.  Thanks.
