[te...]
Bump anyone have thoughts on the GABA dose? I want sleep if possible ASAP, help!!!
Guest [pa...]
GABA doesn't cross the blood-brain barrier. It isn't advisable to stop benzos abruptly. You may be able to sleep without supplements if you slowly taper off. Anyway, the supplement for sleep is melatonin, and no more than 0.300 mg taken right before bed. But I don't know if any supplement can help chemically induced insomnia. Some other drugs e.g. antihistamines like hydroxyzine, and anti-anxiety brands of medical marijuana may be able to help. [Br...]
I'm personally very skeptical about how helpful supplements are in withdrawal. There seems to be a lot of anecdotal claims. But having a few good days or nights after starting a supplement is not proof that they work. The improvement could just as likely be a sign of healing happening naturally. The trajectory of withdrawal is so erratic that it's really not possible to determine whether a positive or negative change is due to a supplement, food, etc. I think the best approach is giving your system the best conditions for healing, something your body knows how to do. I mean things like eating a healthy diet, drinking plenty of water, moderate exercise, and developing techniques to help cope with withdrawal symptoms. I just don't believe there are any magic solutions. I'm not a purist though - I'm a fan of chamomile tea (two bags in a cup) before bed.
