My psych doc plans to rapid taper me from 3mg of klonopin in 2 months.  Does anyone out here in benzo buddies land work with a doctor in Mobile, AL, Southern AL, Gulf Shores, Pennsecola, Southern MS that understands slow tapering scheduling for benzos?

If at all possible have your doc watch this video; https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MVoFlGR7Lhs.  Any doctor who is treating patients on benzos should be made aware of the potential risks.  they all seem to know it is possible to have seizures, but that seems to be the extent of their knowledge.  I was told to go CT off 20 mg diazepam after being on it for 22 years.  This would have been a huge mistake, in fact, I tapered too quickly and potentially suffered more than I should.

I realize they may not listen, but the least you could do is present then with the Ashton Manual.  Do not be surprised if you get blown off as MD stands for minor diety and they have all the answers.  If the doc is completely unreceptive to your attempt to educate him it is time to find a new doctor as CT is a tough way to go.

Hi missbella,  My understanding is not many do.  I don’t have any knowledge of benzo-wise doctors in that area but wanted to share the following.

There is a good resource about benzo withdrawal that you could share with your doctor here: https://wa.kaiserpermanente.org/static/pdf/public/guidelines/benzo-zdrug.pdf.  That along with the Ashton manual here: http://www.benzobuddies.org/forum/index.php?topic=221331.0 are good resources.

Since you have a little time, you might call around and look for another doctor who may be more willing to work with you. Even if they’re not up to date on benzo tapering, they may be open to a longer taper.  It’s your right to find a doctor you feel comfortable with.

Best.

Thank you!  I'll watch the video tomorrow.  I don't want to be triggered tonight before bed.  Last appt I brought in the Ashton Manual and other research material and she would not even accept or take it to read.  She was offended.  She said she was not aware of the Ashton Manual and became defensive.  My worst nightmare is coming true.  I have several doc's that I want to make appts with in the near future and see how receptive they are on a slower taper.  Meanwhile I have started on my own.  I was the one that approach the subject of tapering off Klonopin with the Doc after coming to the conclusion that it was the answer to many of my mental and physical problems thinking she would be receptive and responisive to a safe and responsible tapering schedule and a partner in this journey.  I'm the fool and always have been too trusting in people.
