[Sn...]
Hi to all, I went to a doctor with possible uti and overall body itchiness. Doctor prescribed me hydroxyzine for itchiness. he says its also good for anxiety. I looked it up and apparently it's in the antihistamine class. Just wondering if anyone knows if it will affect gaba receptors and or BZ recovery? Peace and Blessings Snufi
[Ko...]
No this drug has no gaba activity. I was prescribed it too and it'll make you very drowsy.

[Ko...]
I was prescribed it for anxiety during withdrawal. I didn't feel that it helped, I just felt drowsy while being very anxious.

[or...]
Hydroxyzine is an antihistamine. So it is appropriate that it was prescribed for your itchiness. But it also prescribed off label for anxiety. I took it and it made me way too sleepy so I discontinued it. Some BB like it because it does promote sleep. I stopped it with no problem, nor did I have a problem with my taper while I was on it. Hope this helps. Okatz
[La...]
I use hydroxyzine to combat rebound insomnia due to benzo wd. It is a very effective sedative, does not act at GABA receptors, should not interfere with your taper, and has not impacted my benzo taper. It also has anxiolytic properties and it is not physically addictive. Laser
