Toxicity vs tolerance

I am not quite sure I understand what you mean by toxicity. Are you referring to an overdose or an accumulation of drug over time in the body? Drugs with short half-life's do not really result in toxicity unless a metabolite from their breakdown builds up and lingers in the liver. To my knowledge, benzos do not possess this feature. So, the logical conclusion based on this is that you may have reached tolerance.

I think I saw it on another benzo site, basically when you feel worse after you take your dose. I think you're right though, prob just tolerance. I just felt bad the next day after my very first dose, who knows with these drugs ...

I believe I had toxicity and tolerance, the tolerance symptoms were like many here and the toxicity was a mid-grade fever (101) that lasted for months.  I was sent to several specialist but all the tests came back negative.  Finally a Metabolism specialist discovered it was the drugs causing my fever.. Along with the fever I felt very sick all the time, probably similar to tolerance..

I had no Internet and no idea about benzo at the time..

Butterflyz, I have had a very sensitive liver all my life before this reason, I can't even take acetaminophen (Tylenol). My liver enzymes also elevate very easily. Some of us just don't process as efficiently as others. I've read much about the methylation pathways and do some things to help keep my liver from becoming too congested. I have to also add that in eastern medicine and acupuncture, the symptoms they designate as "liver congestion" correlate with a lot of the common symptoms of benzo use and withdrawal, like blurry vision, tight muscles, balance issues, dizziness, 'cog fog', etc.

I am wondering myself if my recent uptick in very unpleasant symptoms despite my hold and not being on high doses ever, have as much to do with toxicity as tolerance. I also have very very little body fat for 'storage' of the metabolites until they can be cleared from the body. So what IS happening in my body? This might be a big part of my problem too.

Wishing you the best. Either way, these factors are good motivation for us to get off this stuff as soon as we reasonably can without doing ourselves more damage.

Symptoms of benzo toxicity are you will feel worse after dosing in the timeframe that it takes effect and will feel better when you make a cut. It is an uncommon problem.

I don't want to hijack someone else's thread, but I've been wondering about this for the longest time. Since I switched to Valium, I've felt better after cutting with two exceptions.

And I feel worse after my morning and evening doses (the afternoon dose is smaller and I don't notice it at all). Sweats, racing heart, etc., within an hour of dosing. Toxicity never occurred to me, though....

Hey No

If you're really experiencing toxicity from Valium I would think you are best off just marching along and getting off the drug as rapidly as you can reasonably tolerate

Thanks, Bart. That's what I think, too ... until I get slammed ... then I think I need to microtaper ... then I wonder if maybe I'm still feeling withdrawals from the Klonopin ... then I think I'll just listen to my body, but good grief, not only does it never shut up, I'm pretty sure it's an idiot.

Apologies once again for barging in on the thread.  :-X
