Feeling weak and jittery after exercise.

Recommended Posts

As you can see by my signature, I have been tapering V after crossing from A.

Lately I am finding it harder to get stable after cuts. Yesterday, after dinner I did a good 30 min. Workout. It seemed after that I just could not settle down. Slept poorly, my breathing felt almost as though it was up to me, like it was not in automatic. I wake feeling very tense these days as well.

Any suggestions on how to get through this phase?  Anything?

Thanks

Hi there, All Tied Up. I'm so sorry for your suffering.

You mention IBS in your signature. Do you mind if I ask if you are very low weight because of this?

The reason I ask is because exercise is specifically restricted in medical protocols for recovery from extreme low weight. There is a good explanation for that at websites that publish those protocols. I participate in one because I lost to an extreme low weight, as you can see in my signature. Benzo has really done a number on me and I have come near to dying several times.

Although I have had many doctors, tests, specialists, hospitalizations, etc, not a single one of them has known a single truthful thing about benzos. I could speak a lot to the power that big pharma has on the training and practice of medical doctors in this country, but it doesn't really help us get well.

And even though my weight got down to 77, not a single doctor has addressed this in any way other than to rule out pathogenic causes. There has been NO HELP at all on regaining the weight I've lost on benzos. That is why I am getting my medical protocols and help from the anorexia community. They know soooo much about this issue.

So if you ARE extreme low weight from your IBS, OR you have been at or below 1,500 calories a day for 5 or more days, check out the articles on why exercise revs your system when you re in this condition. Youreatopia.com is one website. If you go there, look under "blog" and then "index" of articles. There is a lot of information there.

I've seen many people here state that exercise revs up there symptoms. I always look to see if they have a history of gastrointestinal issues and give them this information to check out if it has caused weight loss or calorie restriction.

Hope things get better for you.  ~OneLove  :smitten:

Hi OneLove,

I am not having a weight issue no, in fact I could do with losing about 20 lbs. truth be told.

It looks like you and I are at a similar dose right now.

I got down from a max of 4.5 mgs. Valium with manageable issues and yes, I do get IBS symptoms from time to time. In fact this just started this morning with D as the major problem. I normally go back and forth from D to C with cramping pains.

I had a bad cold for he last week to 10 days and was feeling better yesterday, since I couldn't ride my bike or walk much while I was I'll with the cold, I decided to have a good workout on my elliptical last night. Went 30 minutes , burned about 300 calories or so. Then I took a hot bath and got ready for bed. I was not right all night. Heart racing, BP elevated. This morning same thing. As I write this my BP and pulse have returned to normal however. Now I am fighting the IBSD.

I don't know how much slower I can cut, no matter how slow I go I still get hese issues.

Any advise? Thanks again for responding.

Exercise can increases brain lactate and Glx (glutamate+glutamine), depending on how strenuous the exercise is. And in w/d I believe we are VERY sensitive to Glx.  I think exercise is a good thing in w/d if you can do it, because many can't.  Maybe either try to work out earlier in the day to see if things settle down some and you can sleep or a less strenuous form of exercise for a bit, like walking?

WiseWomanWithIssues,

Thanks for that advise. It makes sense to lighten up on the exercise and do it earlier.

As soon as I'm over this current IBS hing that's what I'll do.

Just on the subject, I see you tapered off from quite a high dose of V and got off totally.

Was there any dose point that was harder to accomplish or was it smooth sailing for you?

Thanks

Well, it's a relief to know you are not in danger from low weight. That can be very bad especially for people with IBS, and worse with IBSD.  You are really  better served to be a bit above your ideal weight than below. If you look at the BOdy Mass Index charts, our ideal BMI goes up as we get older. That has a protective purpose.

On advise, I'm pretty terrible at advice. I have no real answers, only lots of questions and possibilities.  ;).  I am guessing that you have tried a trial of eliminating gluten? And if gluten was a problem, did you try eliminating all grains for a bit? Checked out food sensitivities like dairy? i have a friend that found she was allergic to beef, of all unexpected things. Shes been fine since she eliminated it from her diet. I'm a bit of a midliner when it comes to probiotics; some sources say that you can get too much bifida and it can overgrow in the gut. Lactobacillus rhamnosus has been shown to be healing and calming for the neuro receptors in the gut , so I'm pretty enthusiastic about that.  I use raw garlic every now and then to keep down any bacterial overgrowth. And I personally don't subscribe to the "everyone needs long acting antacids" that MDs hand out like candy these days. I was given a script for high dose protonix during an ER visit and the doctor never  even asked if I had any reflux symptoms!  The next doctor I saw, I asked him why I would have been given that and he said "everyone over 40 or 50 probably should be taking them". Whaaaa?????  My own problem is more LACK of stomach acid for good digestion. Maybe this is how "they" plan on offing the huge wave of baby boomers before we overburden social security and Medicare???  Hahahahahaahahah. Just kidding, but my benzo-induced paranoia AND my last year's experience with the medical profession leads me to those thoughts.  :D :D :D

Do you notice if your gut issues are affected at all by stress?  I am having to reluctantly face the truth that mine are VERY affected in that way and I am working on that angle. Also, do you get chiropractic adjustments? Yesterday I couldn't walk, seriously, due to such bad back and rib pain I attributed to evil benzo.  But I had an adjustment and I am amazed at how much better it is today. I was told I had ribs out of place at thoracic discs 5,7,8, and 9. Those discs enervate the stomach, pancreas, gallbladder, duodenum, and small intestine. Maybe that's been my problem all along and I need more GOOD chiropractic care. (I've had some baaad, and it set me back).

What do you think started your IBS?  Sometimes if we go back to when it all began, we can figure it out.

I hope tonight is better for you than last night,  ~OneLove  :smitten:

I had a fairly symptomatic taper so it presented challenges pretty much throughout.  I also had some medical challenges at the same time which I think complicated things some.  For good or for bad, the mind forget things, including all the sticking points during the taper.  At the time they were pretty intense, but looking back it's all kind of a blended blur, so I'm not sure I can really answer about certain points honestly.

I also have gut issues with an AI IBD, so I really empathize with the additional challenges that presents.  You've done great to get where you are.  Keep doing what you are doing :)

OneLove,

Thanks for responding. I have always had a gut that is sensitive to stress. That has always been a main issue for me growing up even. I think what happened was while I had a week long cold, I took all sorts of daytime and nighttime cold pills. Then when I stopped because I was feeling like the cold was out of my head and chest. This IBS thing cropped up. I also think doing a fairly good 30 minute workout, building p a big sweat and BP to go with and jumping into a hot bath directly afterward triggered it.

That's the best I can figure!

You may be right about us baby boomers! I see as little of the medical community as I can get away with, I don't trust them. They just push the Big drug companies stuff on us. I much prefer a more natural healing philosophy.

Hope your all healed real soon!

  • 2 weeks later...

Well here I am 12 days since my last post. I had a good week since then but just a few days ago I dropped back again. I have not changed my dose since then because I wanted to make sure I was stable again.

I am now having Fluctuating BP and Heart rate. Mostly lower than normal.

Feeling very tired. Not sleeping well at all. I wake up at least 3-4 times a night.

I am having some of the mild withdrawal DP on top of that. The burning skin has let up though, so on the positive side, I do have that. Oh ya, I have little to no appetite.

Does this all sound normal?

Thanks

This sounds normal - I have it too. I would try a long, warm shower after exercise. Great you are able to do exercise....things will get better :)
