Pets and the Power of Positive Thinking

I know this is going to sound a bit daft, but I think that having a pet really helps make me feel better. I don't know if there I could scientifically prove that statement, but I know that when I am around pets (my own or at other people's houses) I seem to feel the edge taken off.

I have three cats, btw. They're fun little guys and I play with the all the time. It makes me feel better and I know they're having a grand time!

I have a little doggy and she has been my primary source of support and joy through all of this. I don't think you sound daft at all.

Pets are truly amazing.  A couple of months before I ct and for 3 months after our dog wouldn't leave my side.  He "knew" how sick I was and was there for me.  We have 2 dogs, one stayed by my side and the other stayed away and I thought that was really strange until I realized I had developed an allergy to that dog.  It's one of those things where fact is stranger than fiction for me.

Now that I'm better all I am is the resident doorman!  They want out, in, out, in.....all day long until my daughters get home!

I so agree, Pete.

When my Mother passed I had her little Yorkie (Tadger) to come and live with me. He was ten years old. I lost him last year at fifteeen years of age, which is the allotted lifespan for his breed. In the time he was with me, he gave me absolute, unconditional love. The kind no human could ever give. He served both me and my ma well, and got me through my darkest days of w/d and the grief which engulfed me on the loss of my Mother.  All the adoration he gave to her was tranferred over to me when she left us.  I miss him, still.  I look after my ex's pooch now when he's away on business and he's just brimming with love. Scoobie is a lurcher cross and is a rescue doggie from the local kennels.  He's thirteen years old. So very intelligent. I'm kinda attached to him.  :)

I also have two African Grey parrots. They are my babies and certainly rule the roost in this household.  I lost my sweetheart cat Minnie" seven years ago.  :(

This is an interesting article on the therapeutic benefits of our furry friends.  :)

Cutest dog picture ever!! :) Seriously, what a cutie!

I'm glad to hear I'm not alone. Pets are really something and they really do sense when something is amiss. I like to think of my guys as family, as they really are a big part of our lives here. I do want to get a dog, but right now I've got three cats to hang out with and they're awesome!

Here's my Kira. Maybe not as cute, but she's still adorable, sticking her tongue out at me:

How do you post these pictures?  I have my little doggie who is waiting to show herself to you all but her servant (me) cannot figure out how to do it.  Thanks J

I upload them to Myspace (there are other places you can put them), then I copy the address (url), paste it here, and enclose it with "img" tags surrounded with square braces.

Janus, you can use "photo bucket" Remember back when Christine was trying to teach us? That's what she used. But I have yet to try it!

This is my son's teacup Yorky. Weighed about 2 lbs at the time. He's been sick and is just now recovering. But this was before he got ill:

The more I read this board the more I love it!  :)  I am thrilled to see this thread.  In fact, I was sitting on patio this morning with my Mini. Schnauzer on my lap and thinking about how wonderful it is to have him to hold when  I am alone during the day.  He's my buddy and has been acting overly cute since I started this taper.  It's as if he knows I don't feel well and he is pulling out all his tricks to make me feel better! :smitten:

I'm convinced that dogs are one of God's greatest creations.  They give so much and love us no matter how messed up we might be.  I'm so glad you have a puppy to love on.  I thought with a name like NatureLover you had to have at least one pet.  I have a pic. of my Jake as my avatar (I think that's what you call the pic with your name.)

What kind of cute "tricks" does your puppy do?  I have a friend who has a white medium size schnauzer named Eddie and he is an absolute hoot.

When I was going through my hell, I used to lay in the floor with my head on my black lab, Smokey.  He was the only thing that comforted me.  He never asked anything of me, just loved me no matter what.  Dogs are awesome!

Love,

Jen

Give me five! Okay ten. What a cutie.  He sure's loves that squeeky toy.  Looks like all your hard work has paid off.  You have a wonderful companion.  I don't know that I'll have the stamina for another puppy but they are soooo precious.  Congratulations on Banger Baggins.  ;D

Thank you Beeper!  Sorry if I sound so hyper on the tape.  I played it back for my husband when I played it (who was in the room at the time) and he said, "Why is it making you talk so fast?!".  My reply? "I dunno!".  :D  Yeah, he can be a true handful, he's given my hubby and I some trouble today, but he's a really sweet boy--- just STUBBORN! LOL
