LAST NIGHT I JUST FOUND THIS SITE AND WAS REALY GLAD TO SEE SOMETHING LIKE THIS EXISTS.THIS MY SECOND TIME I GOT ADDICTED TO BENZOS.IT HAPPENED IN THE FALL OF 2005 ,I SPENT 21 DAYS IN REHABE IN CENTRAL P.A.THE REHABE WAS DIFFICULT BUT WHEN I GOT OUT EXCEPT FOR SOME ANXIETY,I WAS OK .I MOVED BACK UP NORTH TO MY HOME TOWN SO I COULD BE NEAR FAMILY.IT TOOK A WHILE BUT FOUND A JOB UP HERE AND EVERY THING WAS GOING WELL.I HAD A YEAR CLEAN TIME .THIS PAST WINTER WAS TOUGH AND I REALY FELT ALOT OF DEPPESSION,I JUST WANTED TO SLEEP ON MY DAYS OFF.I WENT TO MY DOCTOR AND TOLD HER I HAD ANXIETY AND FELT I COULD HANDLE A COUPLE OF ZANEX TO TAKE THE EDGE OFF.THINKING THIS TIME WOULD BE DIFFERENT THAT I WOULDNT GET HOOKED AGAIN . YEA WHAT A JOKE THIS IS A CUNNING DESEASE .MY INSURENSE ONLY GAVE ME 7 DAYS IN REHABE AND MY VALIAM TAPER WASNT EVEN COMPLETED. SO I LEFT WITH THE SHAKES .IT TOOK A WEEK BUT FOUND A DOCTOR THAT PUT ME ON A PHENAL BARBATOL TAPER.WELL THE MED MADE ME SICK RASHES NASEA ETC, SO I  WAS BACK TO SQUARE ONE.THE DOCTOR THAN PUT ME BACK ON A VALIUM TAPER WHICH IM HALF WAY DONE WITH.IM ON FAMILY MEDICAL LEAVE SOM I GUESS MY JOB IS PROTECTED.SOME DAYS I FELT ALMOST NORMAL AND OTHER DAYS I HAVE REALY BAD WITHDRAWLS,TO THE POINT I CANT EAT AND DONT WANT TO BE AROUND PEOPLE.I DONT WANT MY TEENAGERS TO KNOW THEY LIVE BACK DOWN SOUTH.I JUST WANT TO BE ABLE TO GO BACK TO WORK AND HAVE THINGS BACK THE WAY THEY WERE.IT WILL TAKE TIME ,IM OPEN TO ANY FEED BACK SUGGESTIONS /TSTAR48

Again, Welcome to BenzoBuddies! I'm sorry you have been through so much with these awful meds. You will need to tell us what your current dose of valium is and what your current taper plan is. It may be that you are tapering too quickly which would account for you bad w/d symptoms. Doctors tend to be way too aggressive with tapering plans. I am not a valium tapering specialist, but many here have been through it and know the best way to taper from it. Others will be by to offer you more advice so hang in there and check back. Hi and welcome!!

 

As you have seen, benzos are nothing to play with.  Your body becomes dependent on the drugs very easily and very quickly.  I'm glad you found a doc who switched you over to Valium and now you can do a slow steady taper off.  The withdrawals are horrible, I know, but you will heal and get through this.  Make yourself at home here and read other's stories.  Post when you can.  Glad to meet you!

You stated above in the shout box that you are tapering valium. You started from 10mg and decreasing 2.5 weekly. This is considered an aggressive taper. You may want to slow your taper down. What size pills do you have? You may want to reduce by a smaller amount and leave more than a week between reductions until you are stable before you reduce again.

YES THERESA MY TAPER MAY BE TO FAST .IM EXPECTED TO GO BACK TO WORK SOMETIME SOON AND IM NOT SURE IF I CAN DO IT.IM HOPING MY APPETITE WILL COME BACK SOON IM FEELING  A LITTLE BETTER TODAY,IM HOPING THAT WILL CONTINUE

Can you reduce by a smaller amount and wait two weeks between reductions? The other alternative is to acquire it in a liquid form so you can reduce at a smaller amount.

yea my doctor does have me on a fast taper ,but he is not flexable,I'm seriously thinking of going back to white deer run ,rehab in PA for better treatment, cant tolerate the withdrawls I dont want to be here or see anyone till i get better

If I was you and you are having trouble convincing your doctor that you need to slow down your taper, take a copy of The Ashton Manual to him. Dr. Aston is a reknown doctor with expertise in benzo withdrawal. I will provide a link below to her manual (just click on the link). There are tapering schedules for valium. If you were able to slow down your reductions and leave more time between reductions, you would probably feel much better. How did things go at the rehab center when you were there before? I hope whatever you decide, you will get free of this poison and feel better!

HEY THERESA,THE FIRST TIME IN REHABE THEY DID A PHEL/BARB LIQUID TAPER THAT SEEMED TO WORK ABOUT 14  DAYS OF IT,THAT WAS IN 2005/AT THE END OF MARCH THEY DID A VALIUM TAPER BUT AFTER 7 DAYS INSURENSE CUT ME OFF AND WAS LEFT HIGH AND DRY WITH THE SHAKES.THEN I FOUND A DOCTOR THAT DID A PHEL/BARB TAPER ,BUT I GOT A BAD REACTION TO IT.LOW FEVER AND RED RASH ON MY FACE.THEN HE PUT ME ON A VALIUM TAPER BUT DOSES TO START WERE TO LOW AND I WAS IN BAD SHAPE.LASTLY HE HAS ME ON A ZANNEX TAPER BUT ITS TO AGRESSIVE AND IM GETTING THE SHAKES AGAIN.TRYING TO RETURN TO WORK ,RUNNING OUT OF TIME FOR THAT.MAY HAVE TO TRY BUT IT WILL BE DIFFICULT GOING BACK LIKE THIS BUT NOT IMPOSSIBLE.I TRYED ZOLOFT BUT IT MADE ME SICK NOW IM ON CYMBALTA,TO HELP WITH ANXIETY .THESE MEDS TAKE SOME TIME TO KICK IN THOUGH .THE DOCTOR IS BLAMING IT ALL ON ME SAYING I JUST HAVE TO DEAL WITH MY ANXIETY LIKE IM CRAZY OR SOMETHING,HE SAID IVE BEEN A DIFICULT CASE FOR HIM,BUT I QUESTION THE TREATMENT IVE RECIEVED AND TIME WASTED FEELING BY NOW I SHOULD NOT FEEL LIKE THIS/TOM

Sorry you still are not doing so great. Doctors will keep throwing all kinds of different medicines at you until you leave them alone. How long have you been on the cymbalta? How much xanax are you on and what is his taper plan for that? Xanax is harder to taper than valium because it is short acting. The reason you have the shakes is from withdrawal, your doctor sounds incompetent to me. You are not crazy, your doctor is the one who is clueless. I'm sorry you are going through this. HEY THERESA ,DOWN TO 3/4 MILIGRAM ZANEX .THIS FRIDAY HE WILL CUT ME  .5 MG OR 2  .25  A DAY.SO HE IS CUTTING ME .25 A WEEK .KIND OF AGRESSIVE FOR SURE. ON CYMBALTA ABOUT 10 DAYS IM HOPING THAT MED WILL HELP AS I TAPER OFF THE ZANEX.I DO HAVE 30 MORE DAYS TO GET BACK TO WORK  ,BUT WAS HOPING TO GET BACK SOONER BUT IF I CANT STRING 3 OR 4 DAYS TOGETHER WITHOUT WITHDRAWLS /ANXIETY I WILL HAVE TO WAIT AS LONG AS I CAN TO GO BACK.HAD A GOOD DAY TODAY VERY LITLE ANIETY AND NO RUSH TO TAKE ZANEX ,HOPE THIS WILL BE THE START OF FEELING BETTER.I  AM AWARE THAT ANIETY WILL BE SOMETHING I WILL HAVE TO LIVE WITH TO SOME  DEGREE,BUT AS LONG AS ITS MANAGEABLE.YEA I AGREE DOCTOR IS  A ASS.
