Clonazepam - Irratible and Sad .... Anyone else feel this way?? Please respond

[re...]

Recommended Posts

my pdoc switched me from ativan to clonazepam - in order to taper.

benzos have never made me feel happy.  they bring the anxiety down - but also bring my moods down.

cloanzepam seems to make me fee irratible,  a bit agitated, and cry.  i notice this approx. 2 hours after taking the medication.

anyone else feel like this on benzos - or am I the only one ....

hate these drugs.

restless girl,

count me in.

I have days when I just can't seem to find anything enjoyable to do, not even my hobbies are appealing to me. I am sad and blue and feel like it,s the end of the world.

As far as being irritable - I snap so easily, and then I feel sorry and sad...it's a vicious circle. I've never been verbally abusive before, but there are times when I can't help but think at myself as an abusive person now...and then I realize that it's the klonopin talking not myself.

I am fortunate to have an extremely understanding and supporting husband...I don't think I'll ever be able to make it up to him. I have been going through hell with these pills, and I feel so bad for dragging him along.

Hang in there,

Amy

thanks for replying.

i don't know if it's benzos or not that are making me feel this way - but i also feel very flat, detached and emotionless sometimes on this stuff.  it shuts off the anxiety - but seems to shut everything else down.

anyone else agree with me on this?

thanks!

No anxiety for me either, just feel unmotivated, and blah...unless I have a temper tantrum out of nowhere.

It seems that most my symptoms are physical lately, except for the blah feeling and the "lovely" nightmarish dreams.

I think it's the benzos, at least in my case...I've never felt like this before benzos.

yep - i agree with you on the flat blah feeling. you just feel like a wet dishrag.  not wanting to do anything, socialise, etc.  it's like someone unplugged your zest and personality.

what do you think?

yep - confirmed with my shrink today.  benzos are great for anxiety - but they cut off everything else.  so .... i guess you have to decide - come off and see how you make out.  i'm not looking forward to this ride - my anxiety was hellish at the start of meds.

Hi restless.girl

Some of the side-effects of Clonazepam are rage, aggressiveness, and agitation, but other side-effects are: anxiety and depression.

I struggle with a lot of these (and a whole lot more). Also don't underestimate this - "they cut off everything else".

perhaps it is the antidepressant? are you on one?

my doctor prefers valium and librium over the newer benzos. his experience tells him that patients are less agitated on valium or librium.

I respect the fact that you are taking and SSR

But I wonder what man did 200 years ago when we did not have any of this available

Interesting thought

i too have thought about it -- it is an interesting question. speaking of depression, depression is recorded as a self-limiting episode lasting from a few months to years. so even in the absence of treatment, it would resolve (though in some cases may present itself as chronic). speaking of anxiety disorders -- alcohol has been a refuge (self medication). anxiety disorders respond well to alternative treatments too i think -- yoga, meditation, exercise, religious fervour. only psychosis has never had a treatment. so i do not think these ailments, or least many of them, were incurable or unmanageable in the past.

the quality of life, with the advent of these medications, has only MARGINALLY improved for those mentally afflicted. i emphasize "marginally." not enough research has gone into developing newer psychiatric drugs and a whole bunch of them are products of discoveries made in the 50s i think -- all serotonin based. the efficacy of this type of treatment is also dubious -- ssris and snris, though giving relief, continually "poop out" leaving patients in the lurch or on the roller coaster for trials and errors with different cousins of the same ssri family or even ECT (which is gaba based). add to that the rising demography of the "accidental addicts," to which this board is testimony or people made sick, iatrogenically, by the psychiatric community! so the net impact of these drugs on the human populace might be retrograde to say the least.

Yes I can see it now

A cave man running after a Mammoth with his spears. He makes several attempts to bring down the pachyderm but to know avail

He then goes to the medicine man and tells him he is so depressed.

The medicine man tells him this will pass but in the meantime take these leaves with your next food and it will make you feel better.

Guess what the cave man felt better.

The placebo effect

sounds to me that u r in tolerance.  When u take the med it does the opposite of what it's supposed to.  this happened to me.  from what i understand about tolerance is that even updosing wud not stabilize u.  correct me if im wrong anyone but i believe all u can do is taper.  :smitten: candy

tolerance means that u r withdrawing without tapering.  It causes all u said including being flat.  This is not u it's the drug. candy
