Can anxiety build up until it becomes panic?
« on: March 16, 2011, 08:32:25 am »
Hello everyone,

I have been doing very good for the last month. I was panic attack free until last night when I had one which was quite strong. Well, considering the fact that I have been panic attack free for long, maybe I am just exagerating it.

My question is, can anxiety build up until it becomes panic?

I had been anxious these last days and, maybe the anxiety accumulated until I had a panic attack. Does this make any sense?

I am off benzos for about 2 months and a week and now tapering paroxetine (which it is said to help with panic attacks). Maybe it has also to do with the fact I am slowly getting off the paroxetine.

Thanks for your input!

Hi [...].
Thats a good question.  In my experience I don't think my panic is a build up of anxiety.  Prior to benzos, mine came out of the blue and were usually situational (driving on expressways at night - I know, weird)   Once benzos are involved I don't think there is a clear answer.   So many people going through benzo w/d who have never had a panic attack before experience them very randomly.   Benzo induced panics will go away.
