Trying to get off benzos!

[fl...]

Recommended Posts

I joined to learn how to get off of benzos by tapering.  On Clonazepam for 8 years, 0.5 -1 mg/day as needed.  Only took 3-5 x week. Currently tapering with 0.25mg every 3 days because I am almost out.  I took too many at one time and can't get a refill for 3 more weeks.  Psychiatrist that wrote new prescription, closed his office a month ago, 5 days after he wrote my prescription. I see a new psychiatrist this week.  I hope he will help me get enough clonazepam to get me through until my next prescription can be filled.  I'm really worried if I don't get more soon, I will have severe withdrawals.  I had to leave work this week because I felt like I was walking on a cruise ship in rough waters.  I can't afford to be off of work!

Hello flowergirl17,

Welcome to BenzoBuddies! Congratulations on your decision to taper off clonazepam.  We're so glad you found the forum - you'll find lots of good information, support and encouragement here from others who understand what it's like to go through this process.

It sounds like you're interested in information about taper plans.  A good place to start is the board on Planning Your Withdrawal. You will learn a lot and when you're ready, you can post questions about your own taper plan:

Planning Your Withdrawal (Taper)

I realize you circumstances are constrained by the number of pills you have but you might want to read the Ashton Manual, an excellent resource about benzodiazepine tapering and withdrawal by Dr. Heather Ashton.  Dr. Ashton is an expert in the field - she suggests reducing your dose by no more than 5% or 10% every 1-2 weeks.  Some people find it works better for them to taper even more slowly.

Here is the link for the manual:

Again, we're glad you found us.  Please let us know how we can help you.

Again, welcome,

Kate
