Please Help. Can't eat.

Recommended Posts

I drink a smoothie and am in pain, bloated, nausea for the whole day. I eat chicken and rice and am bloated less, with less pain, still have nausea, but cant get as much down like the smoothie.

I want to avoid the smoothie but there is 600-900 cal in a smoothie and 300-600 cal in chicken and rice.

My body still can’t figure things out. I was incredibly constipated last night. If it’s not one end of the extreme, it’s the other. I never had any gagging issues, but I definitely had nausea, bloating, stomach cramping, intense pain, diarrhea, and nausea. It felt like someone filled my stomach with air every time I ate. It hurt so bad. I literally just dealt with most of this stuff yesterday. Today was definitely better. Tomorrow is a crapshoot. :P

Yep I had the same. I had pancreatic insufficiency. I had to take enzymes for at least a year.

Have u tried probiotics and digestive enzymes? They might help? Look into slippery elm too xx

I haven’t tried any of that stuff, yet! I definitely will, though. I was looking at some probiotic drinks today, so I might try some of those and I’ll keep the slippery elm in mind, also! Thank you Shayna!

stitch, why are you so concerned about calories?  I wouldn't worry about them.  Just eat what you can.  I eat brown rice with chicken or hamburger or beef in a stir fry and it doesn't bother me.  Other food that doesn't bother me:  Organic oatmeal with raisins and some syrup in it; bananas; oranges; sprouted whole-grain bread for toast; natural pb.

No worries x hope it helps. It’s a time thing for sure but having a few things to help doesn’t hurt xx

I feel exactly the same… ive lost 80 pounds since last year going through various withdrawals off of beta blocker heart meds and switching benzos from valium for 16 yrs to xanax for 4 months and then back to valium. I can see my leg bones and my muscles are shrinking rapidly cause i cant walk from weakness and pain… try to eat whatever you can and if you are able to get up and move then do that as often as possible to get things flowing and your body craving nutrients. The gag reflex thing is possibly something that is in your mind because youve had it happen so youre expecting it to happen and then it does again… i would definitely tell your dr about it though

Peace, love, and healing to you

Im not sure my weight but I am 5'5". and it hurts my bones to lie down.

My smoothies have banana, peanut butter and coconut oil in them. Sometimes blueberries.

I have a lot of food reactions.

I know how you feel stitch, I dont know your age, but I’m over 6ft tall and weighed 310 pounds with broad shoulders at 46yrs old… now I’m 47 and have went all the way down to 230 and it’s like my body has become a bag of bones and it hurts because all those bones that were once encased in fat, are now pretty much exposed and move around more, so it causes pain and weird sensations to feel them. I wake up with what feels like arthritis and pains in my shoulders (I’m a side sleeper)

As for diet, make sure you are getting vitamin D… its in eggs, mushrooms, cheerios, milk, ect. Plus you can get vitamin d 3 supplements (they havent hurt me any) if you have to, blend up some of this stuff into something drinkable with some water and just down it. Being weak and bedridden sucks… you are in my prayers. If you can walk at all, go outside and sit for ten minutes when the sun is highest in the sky. Natural sunlight helps make vitamin D also, which helps bone and joint pain

Zman you described it. I hate feeling my body like this. I'm not sure if it WD making me weak or the inability to eat enough. Maybe I get a sunlamp? I wish my body would stop having reactions.

When my stomach is really bad, I puree everything, even meat.  I just make a pureed soup out of something like ground beef and green beans.  I can usually get more of it down that way.  It kind of tastes like pea soup or something.  It's not bad.  So maybe if you're better able to tolerate the chicken and rice, make a puree of that and try to thin it down enough that it goes down easy.  You can thin it with something nutritious and tasty like veggie or chicken broth.  I thin mine with the broth I make with the green beans.

Also, I try to eat something raw with each meal for the enzymes.  If you really need extra enzymes, green papaya is loaded and can really help.  You can make a juice out of it or just grate it and eat it like a salad.

If your body won't allow more than a bit of food before nausea and gagging, you may have some gastroparesis. I have had this, myself. I don't know if it's possible to request a gastric emptying test, but that could help. Gastroparesis is when the contents of your stomach don't empty fast enough into your intestines, and I've been learning that it is somewhat common in w/d. It causes all the sxs you are mentioning. There are treatments for it, typically prokinetics. Have you been evaluated for this? It's also called "slow gastric emptying". I feel for you and hope you are getting enough calories. I lost a lot of weight at the end of last year, myself, and could barely eat, and was also afraid I would need a feeding tube ...

It did get better (for now). My journey has been kind of winding (like all of ours!) so I'm not entirely sure what helped it out as I tried a lot of things. I have been taking different prokinetics (both prescription and herbal). Something finally clicked. Have you been evaluated by a motility specialist? That may be in order if things aren't moving through.

Currently, I'm taking an herbal motility supplement called Iberogast. You can look it up on Amazon. I believe it is helping, but we are all different.

I know you have a lot of food restrictions, but here are some guidelines for the gastroparesis diet - you can see if they feel useful to you: https://my.clevelandclinic.org/-/scassets/files/org/digestive/gastroparesis-clinic/diet-for-gastroparesis.pdf?la=en

I hope you can get some support with this. It is really rough when we can't eat!

Okay smoothies I used in acute I did not taper.  I would put yogurt blueberries spinach banana tangerine and milk or almond milk and blend and drink it.  I also ate peanut butter by the spoonful or nuts applesauce anything.., you have to eat that’s just a fact just get anything you can get in your body don’t get caught up in the whole diet stuff.  Just eat as healthy as you can.

You can get a lot of calories from nuts. They are very calorie dense. This could help someone temporarily who has no appetite and needs to desperately stop losing weight or even gain.
