if you are able to watch TV -- check out Dopesick on Hulu --- a mini-series about the drug oxycontin and how the entire thing was driven by a greedy pharmaceutical company.  Its incredibly well done and based on a non-fiction book by the same name by an investigative journalist.  Its not a documentary -- its a drama and its brilliant.

ever hear of the term "breakthrough pain" -- yep, not a medical term.  It was a term coined by the makers Oxycontin to explain to their doctors why their patients needed "more of the drug" not that they were experiencing interdose withdrawal.

just like the "study" done on Xanax in the 80's that was published that showed over four weeks anxiety and panic improved but by 8 to 12 weeks it had worsened --- Upjohn decided to only publish the first four weeks of the study to prove the drug was "a miracle for panic and anxiety"  --- and market that to doctors -- knowing full well that taken for longer than four weeks led to deleterious experiences for most .......in a few years our own Dopesick will be out on Netflix and Hulu -- keep fighting and standing up for this.

If you liked that series check out “Crime of the Century” on Hulu I believe. Purdue and the Sacklers are getting the heat they deserve, but many of the opioid makers are also to blame. Opana ER, or extended release oxymorohone, was just as addictive as OxyContin but you don’t hear about that one as much because it was pulled from the market. I like how Dopesick didn’t just focus on the substance abusers but pointed out that taking as directed caused dependence issues, which is a much overlooked truth, in my opinion.

Ryan Hampton just put out a book, “Unsettled,” that documents the Purdue bankruptcy court case and how the system is so broken that patients are hardly getting any compensation while the Sackler’s are let off the hook, attorneys are flush with cash and states get funds with zero oversight into how they spend them. With the new extended release Ativan out now this space is definitely worth paying attention to. That new drug is going to cause a lot of pain of suffering.

I had to switch it off. Far too close to the bone for me, and freaked me out
