Road to recovery

I am joining benzo buddies in hope to find someone with same symptoms that can help me through this taper. I have already started my taper from klonopin.

I was on 2mg of klonopin for 10 years. Let me give you a little history how my tapering started.

December 2019 I had my gallbladder removed was sent home and after the anesthesia wore off my heart was pounding and beating over 130 beats per minute. I took 1mg klonopin which always worked for panic attacks right away previous to surgery. This time it did nothing at all. I waited an hour heart rate was still 130. Took another mg of Klonopin total of 2mg and heart rate was still at 130 after 2 hours. Went back to the hospital they kept me a few days ran EKG and CT/scans found nothing. My heart rate did come down eventually but left me with a strong intense heartbeat. Constant pounding. They discharged me with no answers as to why this was happening. They said it was anxiety but I argued that this wasn't. This didn't feel like anxiety to me, it felt like something different. Something is very wrong.  So I decided that day when I got home I was going to stop taking Klonopin since I read so many bad things about it and it didn't seem to be working anyway after the surgery. Fast forward to today 9/18/2021 my heart has been pounding now for 21 months nonstop every second night and day since the day of the surgery. Been to 5 different cardiologist no one can find anything wrong with my heart. Been to different specialists and no one can seem to find anything wrong. Never had a problem with klonopin before the surgery. Not sure if this has anything to do with Klonopin.

Hi Smash73

Welcome to BenzoBuddies!

We are glad you are here and happy to support you with your journey. What symptoms are you currently experiencing? We generally recommend a reduction of 5-10% of your current dose every two weeks, but also let your symptoms guide your taper rate. It would be very helpful to members if you could give us a brief update of your taper history as that will be relevant to your symptoms. The best way to do this is to Add your history/signature. You might also want to look at The Ashton Manual, an authoritative source on benzo withdrawal.

If you would like to ask our members questions on withdrawal symptoms, I suggest you post here: Withdrawal Support (during your taper)

For advice on tapering you can ask here: Planning Your Withdrawal (Taper Plans)

Please browse around and start posting when you are ready!
