Benzos a mast cell stabalizer

[Go...]

Recommended Posts

So I have written a couple posts about me having a possible mast cell disorder. I had no clue this whole time that benzos are a mast cell stabilizer. I also didn’t know they caused histamine issues. I am worse than acute and have been so sick for 4 years now. How in the world could this be withdrawals anymore?!?!?! What’s the answer to healing if it is benzo withdraw if I’m 4 years off and worse then 3 years ago. I’m just curious if I should start this treatment for a mast cell disorder.

They say Gingko biloba cures mast cell destabilization...

I would use it with caution though..Go to that website and see.I guess most of the symptoms we suffer are due to this.

Do you follow a low histamine diet?

No because my blood and urine histamine tests were normal. I am going to repeat the urine one to check again.

if you have a histamine issue there is a histamine blocker supplement for your GI, as it is often a response to certain foods.

but def be careful if meds/supplements are still a problem for you.

As I said above my histamine levels have been normal. I’ve sat in misery for years I need to try something. This site made me afraid to try anything and live my life in fear due to reading constant posts of everyone telling people not to take stuff. When I took antibiotics I was too afraid to take probiotics because people on this site said they cause worse withdrawals etc. if I would’ve taken them my gut health wouldn’t have gotten so bad and made time this incredibly ill.

Benzodiazepenes – Addresses the inhibitory mast cell benzodiazepine receptors. Use short-acting varieties. Lorazepam (Ativan) and Clonazepam (Klonopin, Rivotril) are best when used three times daily. Valium and Midazolam are also sometimes used.

Benzodiazepines are often helpful in MCAS, due both to its action on mast cells and also directly on organs, particularly GI organs. Lorazepam, clonazepam and alprazolam are preferred due to their shorter window of action.

Why is this post moved to here?

I apologize Godsmyhope, when I saw the title of your thread I assumed you were having a discussion about mast cell activation, I didn't realize you were looking for support, my mistake.

Where would you like it moved?

Quercetin is a natural supplement and is the best known natural mast cell stabilizer. It is said that you can safely take 500 mg per day. I have used it in withdrawal without any side effects for allergies and I know others here who have as well. However, it can often have other things mixed in it like bromelain which may not be great for people in withdrawal(not sure). I found pure quercetin at GNC in stock and you can buy it online. That is what I know about it. It could be worth a shot.

Yes so many use quercertin for Mcas but also many have had reactions to it. Cromolyn is what I am prescribed to try out. I’m just scared of all supplements and medication now. My body is in a More severe state I think I need to try the cromolyn for a bit. My throat swells, hives, airways get itchy and I cough after eating and Frequent hives etc.. I am glad it did help you out!! May I ask did your reactions start after you jumped off benzos or layer? This all started 3 years post jump after 1 pill of a antibiotic.

Mine actually started 24 years ago after having a reaction to an antibiotic called biaxin. Benzo withdrawal just made things worse but I am pretty much back to baseline now. I never needed medication to manage my symptoms. I also have had many years of remission. It would come and go in severity.

It would be nice to see some actual scientific studies instead of magical websites. Benzos have nothing to do with mast cells. Benzos specifically target neurons. Nothing else.

Post some scientific links before you make your statement. Dr afrin in NY who is a mast cell specialist has stated they are used to stabilize mast cells.

This is accurate, God’s My Hope

My POTS dr in Canada trained with Dr Afrin and told me the same thing.

I asked her specifically if she has heard or seen of people getting mast cell issues from benzos and she said that yes she had, she had 3 patients like me at the moment.

She also stated that it is anecdotal, as there are no scientific studies on benzos causing mast cell issues.

I could play the conversation for you, if you would like proof.

These are not magical websites. I have a friend being treated for MCAS by Dr Hoffman in Alberta right now, and she only took antibiotics, no benzos. He doesn’t like to use benzos for mast cell, only as a last resort etc.

I got histamine/mast cell issues from antibiotics, and they are being exacerbated by the benzos now.

If you read the thread properly, you would see that GodsMyHope is experiencing these issues after an antibiotic as well, same with Jack37.

Just because you don’t believe in these issues, you don’t have to discount others horrible experiences!

I use a DAO enzyme pill to help. I have cromolyn pills, but want to limit my pill intake at the moment.

Good luck God’sMyHope

Wrong. Lol. Why do we have to post studies just because you can’t find the info. It’s the same people that show up to every one of these threads and have to be a pain in the neck to the rest of us. If we are not nuanced enough for you then stop logging in. I don’t get it and I am done being diplomatic about it. I don’t care what your credentials are or what titles you hold in real life. Learn some manners and until you do I will continue to forget mine. I know those of you who I am addressing lack any and all social skills despite your constant reminders of how smart and superior you are but calling someone’s link or what they perceive to be proof as sarcastically “magical” is inflammatory. If you can’t learn to be nice then I will reply in kind. There, I can be blunt too.

Thank you I was kind of shocked to read his comment. I’m not trying to post false information. I was surprised when I realized that they do use benzos for some with mast cell issues.

Dr. Afrin, Dr. Hoffman, anecdotes. Where is the scientific evidence?
