My liquid titration feels extremely accurate; I'm able to take dosage reductions in the range of 0.00125mg of clonazepam. What method are you using? Maybe we can help you make it more accurate. He’s got it down pat, and I’m sure he can come up with something for you that’s more accurate than what you’re currently doing. Just post your current doing schedule and method of liquid tapering. [Ho...] Posted May 11, 2021 Author Share Posted May 11, 2021 So I’ve only tried it for one day so far, 0.25 mg dissolved in 0.5mls of 80 proof vodka, add 24.5mls of water and took 18mls for a total dose of .18mg(3/4 of the pill). I know darkarchon is actively tapering Xanax (alprazolam) at the moment... I'll see if he can chime in on this thread. Hopeful2021, I understand your concern. Accuracy with liquids has a few variables; briefly though they are the accuracy of your measuring equipment and the volume of your solution (more dilute = more accurate). Does that make sense? I will preface my feedback by saying that I don't do liquid tapering the way you are; I make a single potent 30ml with 0.125mg/ml at 30% ethanol, and I draw tiny doses daily with a 1ml syringe. Your approach, however, is totally viable for liquid tapering, especially if it suits your understanding and temperament. I have three suggestions, just from my experience with clonazepam. 1) From what I've read and conversations with my pharmacist, the more potent the alcohol the faster you'll be able to get that alprazolam to dissolve. I use 180 proof; that's what I had on hand and is what I was suggested to use. If you can source a stronger alcohol than 80 proof, I think you'll have a better chance of making a solution (dissolve alprazolam) instead of just a suspension (alprazolam floating around). This can improve your accuracy. 2) I like to hang out at the tablet and alcohol phase. With a strong alcohol, maybe 30 minutes to an hour; with weaker alcohol, maybe significantly longer. Whatever you can manage; this again helps to get more alprazolam dissolved. 3) If you're working with basic kitchen equipment, I strong suggest a much larger dilution of water after the alcohol stage (this wouldn't change your benzo or alcohol amounts). Even with a graduated cylinder (a tall chemistry measuring tube), I think 50ml is probably the minimum dilution I'd suggest using. If you don't have anything very accurate to measure with, I'd strongly suggest diluting to 300ml (that's just over a cup), with maybe a Pyrex measuring glass and repeatedly using the same measuring device in the same way. Not only will this larger volume of water help better suspend any undissolved alprazolam, but you'll be taking larger and likely more accurate measurements either for reduction or dosing. Do any of my suggestions make sense for your situation? How are you currently measuring your liquids? Are you actually planning to daily micro taper your liquid? I hope this helps. I leave mine for about 10 mins or so. Your solution ratio is 0.01mg/ml, and 18ml should equate to 0.18mg. As long as the Xanax is dissolved, then shaking/swirling the solution should generally give you consistent dosing. Does 18ml consistently feel like you are taking 0.125mg? Or does it change every day? If you increase to 25ml, do you find better stability? As suggested by slownsteady, you could leave the Xanax to dissolve in the 80 proof alcohol for a longer fixed time (60 mins). Or you could use the stronger 180 proof alcohol to dissolve much faster. I only did one liquid dose so far and went back to cutting the pill at 0.182mg. My plan was to do a daily micro taper and Darkachon came up with the numbers for me using that solution. If so and you encounter issues, you won’t know if they were caused by the reduction in dose or the change in drug format. Also, fyi, some (but not all) members find they need to increase their dose slightly when they switch from all tablets to all liquid. To answer your original question ... Accuracy is the degree to which the result of a measurement conforms to the true/correct value of the quantity being measured. Assuming you can use an oral syringe properly to measure the desired dose, using a commercially manufactured prescription oral solution is accurate. That is, what you measure is what you get in terms of the amount of benzodiazepine you are ingesting. However, if you are using a homebrew liquid made with regular tablets, it is unknown if you are getting an accurate dose. Why? To our knowledge, homebrew liquids have not been tested for homogeneity (we do not know if they are true solutions), potency (we do not know how much drug is contained in a given dose), or stability (we do not know if the physical, chemical, and microbial properties of homebrew liquids remain the same or degrade over time). Could you try it again and leave it in there for a much longer time. How would I do it in 50mls? You have the formula for 25ml. For 50ml, you would double everything. 0.50mg Xanax + 1ml vodka + 49ml water. I agree with Libertas that changing dosage forms and cutting at the same time can lead to confusing results; I suggest ideally switching from 0.182mg in tablets to the same in liquid form first, and hold for a few days to monitor your symptoms and let your body adjust to the new form. Again, ideally. Otherwise, I'd suggest to just expect some adjustment symptoms and don't resume cutting until you've stabilized. Hopeful2021, a daily micro taper requires removing something close to a sustainable daily reduction; this is often somewhere between 0.3% and 0.7% of the current dose (based on the 5-10%/14 day guideline). If your only equipment is a 10ml and 5ml syringe, and it sounds like you can get 0.5ml measurements, I'm guessing that one or both of them have either 0.5ml gradations or 0.2ml gradations (the lines on the side) and that's your smallest measurement. Is that correct? A problem I'm seeing is that 0.25mg alprazolam into 25ml of total solution may not be dilute enough for these measuring devices. Even 0.2ml of this solution is a 1% reduction of your 0.182 dose, too large in my opinion for safe daily reductions, and this percent will get larger as your dosage reduces. Could you source a 1ml syringe with 100 gradations? This would allow your 25ml, 0.01mg/ml solution to be reduced by 0.0001mg intervals. I think that would be more than sufficient for safe daily reductions at your current dose. ([nobbc]https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01628CDEE[/nobbc]) Alternatively, you could dissolve 0.25mg tablet in alcohol, and then dilute with water to 250ml. This would create a 0.001mg/ml solution. If your syringes have 0.2ml gradations, this would give you the option to reduce by 0.0002mg, which again, I think would be sufficient for safe daily reductions at your current dose. Plus you'd get the benefit of working with more volume and this could make your measuring errors smaller. Sorry for all the edits... I just needed to keep thinking about this. I hope it helps! I’m sort of afraid to try it again, I feel like I’m never going to be able to wean of this medication. I’m very envious of your smooth taper Darkachon! Would you be able to create another DMT chart for me with the new solution and maybe I will give it a try and get the 1ml syringe. I was hoping I’d feel better as I taper. If the planned reduction fields (quantity or percent) become locked, which happens to me, just refresh the page and all your information should still be present. These two fields are mutually exclusive, so one field might need to be deleted to edit the other. Once you submit the form you should see an inverse exponential curve on a chart, representing a percent reduction schedule that is always based on the current dose, and a schedule of daily doses below. I like to save the PDF ("To PDF" button at bottom of page), then open the saved PDF and print the first couple pages to start. I simply take the decreasing doses as described in the schedule (i.e. cutting), dating and/or crossing off each day as I proceed. If my symptoms are too severe, I keep taking the dose I took last until I recover functionality (i.e. hold), then resume the daily reductions. It's as easy as that! I suggest creating another batch using the suggestions provided (let the Xanax dissolve in alcohol for 30 mins). As suggested earlier, some need to increase the liquid dosage after switching from pills, and you may be one of them. Could you try 25ml? How do you feel? Any better than 18ml? Once you find stability on liquid dosage, you can then begin the tapering process, and it is smooth sailing from there (gradual decline of 5% to 10% per week and listening to your body and your symptoms). Yes, the same ratio. 0.25mg Xanax + 0.5ml vodka + 24.5ml water. Doing really well post-jump. Sleeping well for the past 3 days. No issues at all. I am back to my pre-benzo self. I still have trouble sleeping some days, but this was always an issue for me. There are options. You can split into multi-doses if needed. However, the first thing would be to get stable on liquid, and then you could begin the taper. Please let us know how the next batch goes. You could give dose 22ml or 25ml, and see how you feel. I suspect your withdrawal symptoms may affect you during both the day and night; stabilizing on your night dose or reducing your taper rate may help you keep the day time symptoms more manageable. Alternatively, you could take half your dose in the AM and half in the PM, but this could take some adjustment and like you say, it won't be as strong at night. [Ho...] Posted May 17, 2021 Author Share Posted May 17, 2021 Yea I’ve been holding for about 5 weeks, but it hasn’t made a huge difference, I had maybe 3 head light head pressure days so far, but tried the liquid titration for one day and felt worse. So I just went back to 3/4’s of the pill. Previously I had gone back up to the 0.25 for a couple weeks to see if that would help with the head pressure and that didn’t either.
