Critical Mass, Mar./20: "What Happened to Jordan Peterson?"

I feel like this article really paints a bad picture.

It’s pretty negative and keeping the door open to the idea that Peterson was abusing and addicted

Boy do these people have no idea what we go through

He's painted a picture that he's had an unlikely paradoxical reaction and he was so bad that he needed specialist rehab. He has constantly told people through his lectures to take responsibility,  man up and become responsible for themselves etc.

He's a clinical psychologist and has treated patients through his clinic so I'm surprised he had no idea about the effect of benzos.

He's had a tough withdrawal,  probably the same as millions of others and the first thing he did was look for an easy way out instead of taking responsibility for himself like everyone else has too. He hasn't highlighted the problems of benzos, he's covered it up saying he was unique in his reaction.

I'm disappointed and I'm a bit of a JP fan. I don't expect F1 drivers to never crash,  but if they get in and can't even start the car,  you've got to ask questions.

He could have done so much more. Fair enough he took benzos, he needed something,  that's why we all take them. He hit WD, yep, so do most people,  but don't try and paint it like you're the only one. Need help, good,  but there are experts out there,  rehab isn't it.

I sort of have some sympathy because it would seem that his daughter made the bad decisions on his behalf. I can understand why he might choose not to focus on what could have happened differently. I really strongly doubt that it was inevitable that they had to choose something radical. I am pretty sure that with some patience and not much tinkering, he could have gotten stable and tapered. It would seem there was a frenzy and they made a bunch of mistakes that many of us could honestly make if we had the same resources. Presumably they paid good money for a doctor who they assumed would make good decisions on their behalf. It would be nice to think he could break down what a bad decision that was but I reckon he's deluded himself that he couldn't have done anything different to change things much. It's just human nature. Maybe in time he'll speak out against psych meds but I wouldn't count on it.

And for now, he wants to focus on the release of his new book. I've seen a number of articles like that. They're not about his health issues -- just the book.

Interesting.  I'm a bit annoyed with Mclean Hospitals benzo detox schedule, as I think that is way too fast for most people.  Mclean is a very well respected hospital too, so I can't fault the author of the article.  But I do wonder if Jordan Peterson's problems were brought on by trying to taper too fast.

Detoxing through an induced coma seems to be a fairly harsh thing to do. The body needs time to adjust, and just because you get the medication out of your system doesn't mean your body has made the necessary changes. It takes time.
