Needs some answers on Doxepin for sleep

Is doxepin supposed to work the first time you take? I tried it and it relaxed me but didn’t get to sleep and ended up taking melatonin with it and slept most of next day.Anyone have any success using this for sleep?Does it have to build up in your system to start helping with sleep?

It worked for a day or two then stopped, like everything I’ve tried but benzos. But I tried to use it to replace benzos I was dependent on without tapering, before I knew any better.
