Xanax direct taper help

[...]

Recommended Posts

I'm needing some advise for my taper.

i have been using xanax ( 1mg) nightly only for approximately 1 year purely to relax no current anxiety issues ,i have done a taper before(2015 did not use benzos again until 2019) using the Ashton taper method under the guide of a addiction specialist that was very brutal and i didn't know at the time i had the option to control the taper.

This time I'm wanting to do it without medical assistance unless i believe my physical or mental health is suffering greatly and could use additional assistance.

I'm aware xanax has a very short life so have divided my dose into 3x daily 0.25 morning  , 0.25 midday and 0.50 night to avoid interdose withdrawal as i have a job which i can not afford to lose and requires a lot of focus and attention .

I'm stuck as to how to daily micro taper do i take my cut from the total daily dose amount or cut from 1 of the three daily doses until down to 2 then 1 etc. i have been tapering for 2 weeks and cut 10% so far symptoms have been uncomfortable but not agony .

Any advise is much appreciated

Hopefully someone else will weigh in.  I believe you want to dose equally and reduce equally....but it is hard to do this, especially with a dry taper.  When I did it, I took .125 off my midday dose first, then took and equal amount off my evening dose, followed by my morning dose.  That is just the way it worked for me, I think there is some room for trial and error.

TikiHut described what worked for them, just as you'll need to figure out what will work for you depending on your needs and your lifestyle.  I see you've already set your doses up according to your lifestyle, you have to work so you're probably taking the .50 at night to aid in sleep?  You can shave a little off each dose, or slowly eliminate one dose at a time.  Eventually they'll all go but how you choose to get there is your decision because this is your taper.

Professor Ashton provided taper schedules but most here have found that they need a more individualized taper because no two of us are alike.  It sounds like given your previous experience withdrawing that you'll need to take this slowly especially with your job.  I've seen those tapering Xanax take their dose 4 times a day so that may be something you adopt, just remain open to what your body is trying to tell you and adjust your taper accordingly.

For your information if you get to a point where you can't cut the pills anymore.  You can crush and weigh them using a jewelers scale or I see it also comes in a liquid form. https://dailymed.nlm.nih.gov

Thank you for the reply I should have mentioned my first taper didn't involve a cross over period I was switched straight to valium from a mixture of temazpam and Zolpidem.

I am currently using a scale to weight my daily dose I have found alot of useful information on BB prior to starting my taper.

Your right iam using the 0.5mg at night to help with sleep which is my biggest concern. I was very lucky with my previous taper the worst sxs was migraines, light sensitivity and insomnia.

This time head fog, muscle aches and horrible sweating are so far all iam experiencing which is just uncomfortable in comparison to others

Your totally right about how I get to the end, which is where I have found the most comfort that I have no deadlines I'm able to cut and hold as needed.
