Adverse reaction to vistaril

So I’ve tried vistaril twice now and both times it’s caused a panic attack. I took it the second time because I wasn’t quite ready to pin it on the vistaril but damn now I’m convinced.  Anyone have a similar experience? Also I want to point out that overall it seems like people in withdrawal do fine with this so don’t let this post keep you from trying something that might work for you. If it doesn’t work you’ll know.

Probably because it's an antihistamine. Antihistamines ramped me up even before benzo WD...and definitely even worse during it.

Maybe you just might not be able to tolerate them right now.

I couldn't even take a child's benedryl during acute. And you are right, when you know, you know!

It never bothered me, so of course everyone is different. Normally most antihistamines make me hyper, but Vistaril (Hydroxyzine) did help with sleep some farther out.

 

Sorry you’ve had bad reactions to it. There are two formulations. Hydrochloride and Pamoate. I think I’ve had both and don’t remember much difference, but I suppose it could.

I had similar reaction to benadryl but vistaril was fine. Just made me feel funny mentally (a little trippy).
