Can I use mirtazapine to substitute clonazepam for sleeping?

I am a patient of anxiety disorders. I take EFEXOR XR as my routine drug. I also take clonazepam 1.5mg every night for sleeping. I'm on it for eight months. Since I am afraid of the long term side effects of benzodiazepines, I consider using mirtazapine to substitute clonazepam. Any advice?

You probably shouldn't just stop the clonazepam and swap it completely out with mirtazapine. If you want to get off the benzo, taper it slowly.

 

A lot of people use mirt to help taper benzos. I tried it, and the mirt seemed to help for a while, but now I think it's just made me worse. I would think twice about adding any new meds.
