Has anyone ever come off quetiapine?

Quetiapine brand name Seroquel is an anti-psychotic.

 

At high daily doses of 300gm + it's used for psychosis.

 

At medium doses 100 - 300 it's used for depression/anxiety, usually when ADs aren't responding.

 

At low doses it's used for sleep since it has similar effects to antihistamines, and is most sedating at 12.5 - 50.

 

I've been on the very high doses but now only 25 - 50 nightly for sleep.

 

At 25 I sleep about 6 hours. At 50 about 9 hours.

 

I need to come off completely because I'm running out and don't have access to a doctor.

 

I envisage insomnia when I stop altogether. I just wondered if anyone with experience can give me an idea how long insomnia will last.

 

Contrary to what Doc Google says, coming off Seroquel is relatively painless in terms of withdrawal effects.

I've reduced from 50mg to 37.5mg. A 25mg splits in half very easily. Do far so good

I gave up after 3. So I'll just be specific.

 

Has anyone taking Seroquel for sleep ever tapered off? I'm interested in knowing what happens when you stop taking that last 12.5mg. Presumably you get insomnia for a while.

 

How long did it last?

I haven't had Seroquel now for about five days.  Your sleeping will get better when you're off and so will the side effects.  The side effects are horrible. 

Hi, I did. My dose was not high, only 50 mg at night. It went well, I think one week with some insomnia and itchiness. That was all.

Those last two posts are very reassuring. I'm on 37.5mg nightly and get 6 hours sleep on average. 25mg will be the next step then I guess 12.5mg.

 

Seroquel is a weird one. It's more sedating at low doses.
