thats what the whole thing is about. it affects your limbic system big time. otherwise you would not be withdrawing

Does anyone know if benzos affect the limbic system?

 

If so do you have a article on it ?

Yes directly through the GABAaRs in the limbic regions (for example the amygdala circuits), but also indirectly on circuits that are interconnected to the limbic regions via interneurons.

 

Certain benzos affect limbic regions more profoundly than others, based on region-specific subunit GABAaR expression in those regions.  If benzo x binds to subunit y with very high affinity, and subunit y’s are highly expressed in limbic region, that benzo will have a larger effect on the limbic region of the brain vs. benzos that bind weakly (low affinity) to those subunits.

Expression of GABAaRs is also dynamic, but the tables above give a good approximation.

 

This, in part, explains why there’s such a wide diversity in withdrawal and withdrawal symptoms from different benzos.  Different benzos penetrate the brain (bind to the receptors in various regions) very differently.(based on their affinity for specific GABAaR subunits)
