I am thinking using the dry method with a weightscale to start

I'm going to provide a couple of links for you to view.  As to your scale, in your signature you mention it being unreliable, have you tried weighing 10 pills and taking an average of them, I realize it's difficult to get an accurate weight on just one pill.
