Abdominal pain and elevated liver enzymes

I was wondering if anyone else ever experienced upper abdominal pain and high liver enzymes? During the first few months of wd I would get it every night. Ithought it was just heartburn. Then 3 weeks ago at 5 months post we I got it again. I also started to turn yellow. They admitted me into the hospital for 2 days. Said my liver was inflamed but everything else seemed fine. Well it happened again yesterday. Went to the doc today and they said my enzymes are high again but not as high as before. They want me to talk to a GI specialist and surgeon. They think it's my gallbladder. Has this happened to anyone else during their wd or after? Has anyone had to have surgery during wd? I am so scared that I will end up back in acute wd from having a surgery 6 months from my last benzo.

I’m sorry you’re having to worry about this, and glad you’re being closely followed by your doctor.

As to surgery, I had foot surgery not long after my taper ended.  The anesthesiologist used propofol (no noticeable after-effects) and though I was offered a pre-surgery ‘relaxant’ (which means a benzo) I asked if I could leave that decision until the last minute.  When the time came I decided no to the benzo. It’s simply to relax you before surgery, no other reason for it, so I said no. I took pain medication for the first two weeks and had no trouble with that either.

Most people here have the same experience...surgery does not seem to cause significant setbacks.

Anticipating surgery is the worst part.

Thank you for your reply! It really helps to ease my mind a little. I have gotten to where I feel pretty good most days. My main symptom left is tightness in the middle of my face. I read some horror stories about people going back into acute wd after surgery and it scared me. I would just hate to do anything to set myself back. The pain is no fun though and seems to be happening every 3 weeks for the past month and a half.

Yes, I’ve heard gall bladder pain mimics a heart attack and is not only painful but scary. Would be good to be done with it once and for all.
