Neurofeedback

I did a brain map for neurofeedback. I'm going over the results on Wednesday. I'm debating giving this modality a try as I've always suffered from anxiety and bad sleep as long as I've held a job in the adult world. Has this modality helped anybody along the way? Or is this just another waste of time and money?

I have considered it, but haven't taken the plunge myself.  Hard to find much quantitative info on actual outcomes, and anecdotal info I have seen is mixed.

Would love to hear how it goes if you follow through and give it a go.

Cheers,

I've thought about it, too. I read over some past threads about it, but overall, it doesn't seem to have been something that people stick with for a long time, maybe because of the cost. Still, I'd like to give it a try. I don't know if my insurance covers it, though.

Ptsdmiracle, what was the anectodal evidence you found?

Some people say they felt like their brain turned blank, emotions went out of control after stopping after a few sessions. Like they forgot how to drive the car, where to go next, etc. they said it changes ur brain waves and sometimes the effects are scary. There are also people who said it helped with certain symptoms. I can't  remember exactly.

Seriously? All therapists trained in trauma should be willing to do it. Mine offered to do emdr and neurofeedback , all with additional cost other than the cost for the therapist session itself

No, my therapist won't do it with me. I want to do it though.

I sought out a therapist who had specific experience with EMDR, it may be worth a look to see if you can find someone else.  Even if you keep 2 therapists temporarily to see how it works out.

This treatment is not meant for withdrawal recovery. Remember, we are hurt more on the physiological aspect which results in us experiencing psychological symptoms of the various kind. Once the brain heals all symptoms dissipate. Minimum recovery period for brain injury victims is 2 years to 5 years and beyond, i consider myself within this group cause if you think about it, the pills have done physical damage to the brain. Im done wasting my money on various treatments. Regular check ups are fine to see if youre healthly, otherwise ill just wait and endure the anguish.

I'm feeling terrible right now just over 24 hours after neurofeedback. It feels like I'm going insane. Can't sleep. Head feels weird. Never again.

Sorry dude, from now on just endure. Thats really all we can do. Eat healthy and distract. Trying new things will certainly back fire on you and hunder the progress made. Your brain heals on its own. I have a friend in texas who recovered from brain injury from a bad bike accident. He had to relearn how to talk and walk and his memory took many months before he could remember. But today, he's back to his old self, and quite frankly, hes much stronger. So... If he can make it then we certainly can.

Did close to 50 sessions in 2018 (2 years into withdrawal)... no pros and no cons. Didn't make me feel any different as far as withdrawal symptoms were concerned. I wasn't working at the time and just having some sort of hope / distraction was a positive.

If you're going to do it, go see a neurofeedback specialist who does this daily / has a lot of experience. I would not recommend a therapist unless neurofeedback is the primary part of their protocol (like they do this everyday and are getting good results) and they have extensive training. There are also different types of neurofeedback so do your research.

Colley, are you doing any better? I'm really struggling with insomnia still as I near 2 years off and just a general feeling of being insane all the time. I had a few windows a week ago and was hoping it was maybe getting better.

I'm better than I was if that's any consolation. It's very slow for me but not for everyone from what I've read here over the years.
