What Should I Look For In A Therapist

Now that I’m on This wild ride, which is six months past a rapid taper from Alprazolam, I am looking for a therapist to help me. Just not sure what type I should be looking for? Or if anyone knows of a good one located between Chicago and Milwaukee?

What I wanted in my therapist might be different from what you want.

Be willing to shop around to find someone you believe will help you move forward.  I had some history with meditation, so found a therapist who could work with that.  I wanted somebody who would push me a bit - give me homework, call me on my BS (with compassion, of course).  That might be a little too much 'in your face' for some people.

You bring your own attributes (and your own concerns).  Find somebody who can complement them.

Someone who is empathetic and won't only respond with book answers. I met with so many therapists and they would respond with what seemed like memorized sentences to my story. "Oh that's interesting. That's strange. I'm so sorry. You're brave." Not helpful.
