Trazadone tapering after 7 days use

[Ma...]

I currently take 100 mg of trazadone. I am in a rough spot and added 50 more mg the last 7 days. I’ve already reduced that by 10 mg. Does anyone know if I could quickly taper the rest of the 40 mg without issues?

I’m not an expert and just started taking trazodone 50mg last night.  If it’s only been 7 days at 150mg, I don’t think there would be any withdrawal dropping back to 100mg.

I researched the hell out of the drug before deciding to take it.  While it’s a good idea to taper off longer long term use of an antidepressant, reducing a 7 day dose increase all at once is probably okay.  Maybe check with the pharmacist to be sure?

I’m really hoping it brings me much needed relief.  Time will tell as we’re all different.

Good luck Magnolis!

Yes I am.  I take 11.25mg mirtazapine in the morning and 7.5mg at night.  If trazodone works, I’ll be cutting out 3.75mg of the morning dose first.  Then I’ll gradually reduce the other doses.  It may not be as difficult with trazodone on board.

Mirtazapine seems to have an early poop out.  My dose was increased trying to deal with anxiety issues.  It obviously hasn’t helped but tapering two benzos and an antidepressant at the same time was a bit too much.

I’m really hoping trazodone continues to help.  It’s hard to tell after just one night but  keeping a positive attitude that it will.  I know there’s room to increase the dose but really hoping to stay in the lower dose range of 50 to maybe 75mg if needed.

Why did you increase your dose for a week and now decrease?  Too sedating?

If you look at my sig, I was doing great for 3 years with a slow dlmt. I held for health and moving. Then I hit 2 and hell broke loose. Tapered too fast and it’s been a cascade is symptoms. Problem is I didn’t catch it quick. Festered for 2 months before I updosed.  Sleep issues bad in last 6 weeks. Tried everything. Just getting sicker so I updosed trazadone. Too sedating

@Magnolis...

Is the trazodone helping with your sleep still or not?  Are you stable on your current benzo dose after up dosing?

These drugs are terrible! I feel for you.  All of us in the same shitty boat.

But you know what??  We won’t be like the Titanic and sink!  We’re survivors and we’ll be well again!  I believe that because some days hope and belief is all we have.

We can and will do this!!

Yes the trazadone definitely helps. Like all the others, you have to increase after a while. It’s the least evil of all the drugs, I think.

I updosed the Valium 5 weeks ago, so there’s some improvement, but because of this horrible fatigue, (which I didn’t have before) I can’t do much. It hurts because I was so active. People say once you fall in the hole it can take 3 months . Do you have the fatigue?

@Magnolis...

I don’t have physical fatigue...it’s mental fatigue.  Feeling unwell for so long really affects the body, mind and spirit.

Physically I’m exhausted because my sleep is terrible but hoping trazodone will help correct this. I’m really trying to have a positive outlook it will be THAT one thing to finally ease my symptoms...especially insomnia and nausea.

I’ve read several different times Valium does cause fatigue.  It just may be the nature of the beast for some. Maybe once you get below a certain milligram the fatigue will lift!?!  Crossing fingers for you!

I do think you’ll be okay decreasing the trazodone increase after just 7 days up dosing...not every drug decrease is a horror show.

Sometimes I read my own sob stories and scream, “STOP that!!  People are suffering enough and don’t need to read about your sorry ass!”

Must be the benzo brain!  :idiot:

We’ll get there Magnolis. We’ll get there!

Have you tried a good quality cbd?  Also an app called Calm is great. The mental torment is the worst symptom.  Sad thing, before this, I had very few symptoms.  Good luck tonight. I know how bad sleep deprivation is. The good thing is one night you’ll see a positive change and that builds.

Magnolis,  I was on Trazodone for 2 years when I was very ill with ME/CFS.  I didn't taper at all and had no wd symptoms.  On the other hand I was on Prozac for 2 years and went of CT and wow!  Brain zaps for weeks.  Had no idea it was CTing Prozac,

My husband took  Trazodone for 15 years (50- 100 mg pr night) for insomnia and went off CT.  He went off CT and did fine - I think he was edgy for awhile, but he had also gone CT from beta blockers at the same time - and I know beta blockers need to be tapered.

His insomnia returned but has been nice remedied with 150 mg. full spectrum CBD capsules from Lazarus.  Sleeps very well now.

Be sure to check with your doctor, but it's hard for me to believe you'd have a problem going of Trazadone after just a few days.  Hope this helps.

Trazodone is one of the drugs ME/CFS specialists prefer over the SSRI's.

Thanks so much.  I’m starting cbd from a mm dispensary. That’s great news. My mg is much less than 150 though. Thank you for responding about trazadone.  I have bad ptsd and through this and am afraid any adjustment could cause problems.

@Magnolis...

I’ve tried a couple good quality, tested for pesticides, purity, etc, CBDs. I found them too stimulating. I also tried a medical marijuana tincture and that was not a good experience at all!

I have the Calm app but I use Simple Habit app every morning for about an hour.  I also  use Tapping Solution app for at least a half hour every morning.  Mental torment is a terrible thing.  Constant nausea and insomnia wears the soul down.  I’m feeling positive things about trazodone.  The thought of more then 3 to 4 hours of sleep at night is like peeking into a tiny piece of Heaven!  I hope I sleep better tonight too.  Lord knows I need it!!

I’m old and tired.  Time to rejuvenate!!

New med.  Better sleep? New me!

Have a good night yourself!

Does the trazodone give you a really stuffy blocked nose feeling?  What other meds have you tried for sleep?  Why are you coming off after 7 days - has it stopped working?  I tried 7.5mg of mirt last night and i think ihad a paradoxical/bad reaction.  I got to sleep for 2 hours then suddenly woke with pounding heart and panic.

I take 100mg of trazadone. I’ve been in a bad way so I added another 50. That’s a high dose, so I wanted to know if I could drop the 50 after 7 days. I have dropped it to 35 mg and I’m staying there til after Xmas. During the last 2 months, I’ve taken mirtazapine ,which I think is a terrible drug. Hydroxyzine such gave me a panic attack. Benedrl Tylenol pm, over counter sleep aids. They were all making me sicker except trazadone. I got some high quality cbd, which helps more than anything.
