I have been on Lorazepam  6mgs a day for over 20 years. Also 30 mgs of Temazepam nightly.  After seen the Lisa Ling documentary, i felt like someone has saved my life.  I have been planning to being sent to a home for my depression and constant sobbing.  I am not crazy...i know now what is wrong.  I taled to a new dr and begged him to help.  He is trying to make a plan but knows little about this.  I hope i can find my way back to this sight.  Thank you oh dear God thank you for being here  annie

Hello lookingforhelight, Welcome top BenzoBuddies!

We're so glad you're here, and so sorry to hear what you've been going through!  20 years is a long time to be on these drugs, they're only recommended by the manufacturers for about 2-4 weeks, they know how powerful they are.  Many of us here know the darkness you've been feeling, but just as many have found our way out by ridding ourselves of these drugs, you can too!

We can help both you and your Dr determine a good plan, we have lots of resources like The Ashton Manual, it's a comprehensive look at benzo's and what they to do our bodies, withdrawal symptoms and many taper plans to choose from.  You can also take a look at our General Taper Plans for some ideas, and even start a thread asking our members to help you figure out a plan of attack.

We can help you, please don't despair, you can do this!

You can do this, Annie.  It's worth it, and you'll be amazed at how much benzos were stealing from you, making you depressed, anxious, miserable. I was also on high doses for 15+ years, sick in tolerance, felt trapped.  I freed myself, and you will too.  Tons of knowledge and support on this site.

The new dr just called.  I am devastated.  After being on 6 mgs of ativan for 20 plus years, he has decided with the pharmacist that a safe taper for me is to drop .5 every 2 weeks.  Iasked if he had read the Ashton Manual  or just watched the Cnn Special on benzos.  He said he works 12 hours a day and doesnt have time to watch a TV show.  He trusts his pharmacists is correct.  Now what do I do?

So sorry to hear this.  Can your PCP prescribe in the meantime,  while you find another psych?

Bless your heart.  Welcome to the site.  You must find another pharmacist if you are able.  The medical community (some doctors and specialists) are not informed as much as most pharmacists.  My one visit to a psychiatrist was dismal as well - telling me I could taper in 3 to 4 weeks.  You must not give up hope.  Please widen your search. - can you do this?
