[Ju...]
It’s been 20 years and I decided to seek help of an addiction specialist. Only .5 XANAX 2 x a day and little did I know how powerful it was. Well I started in Feb and am down to 7mg of Valium 2 x a day and plan on tapering very slowly as I find it keeps me from having withdrawal too bad in the first days. I recommend only taper off XANAX with medical help !!!! edit: user name removed from title
[pi...]
Hello Justandi, Welcome to Benzo Buddies and congratulations on doing so well on your taper thus far. You've got the right idea in terms of going slowly. Benzo withdrawal is not a race, slow and steady is the way to go. I think it is wonderful that you have the help of a good health care provider. Sadly, that is not the case with everyone. That is why forums like this are so valuable. We provide information, support and encouragement to those going through the withdrawal process. It sounds like you plan to take things slowly. A slow taper can help to minimize withdrawal symptoms. Generally, a reduction of no more than 5-10% every 10-14 days is suggested. I'll give you a link to the General Taper Plans for additional information. I'll also give you a link to the Ashton Manual. It is an excellent resource about these types of drugs and how to withdraw. The manual was written by Dr. Heather Ashton , an expert in the field. I'm glad you've joined the forum, you'll get a lot of support from members who understand this process. Benzos are tricky drugs. It doesn't take long and it doesn't take large doses for a physical dependency to develop. You are on your way to being benzo free, it will just take a little time. Please do ask questions, we're here to help. General Taper Plans The Ashton Manual pianogirl

[am...]
I have been taking Xanax/ Alprazolam 2mg qid for 13 years now. I can't encourage you enough to get the brand name if its not going to cost a load of money. With my experiences between the two, the brand name tablet wins in every category.
