Make certain you are smoking 100% Indica, NOT Sativa or you can give yourself quite the nasty panic attack from the paranoia and heightened awareness of body sensations

Sometimes I wish that were a (legal) option where I live.  :-\  Probably just as well; the paranoia can be very frightening when it occurs.

Can cause chronic depersonalization and derealization. I know so many people who say "I wish I never did that!".

It's a trigger for d/p also in the movie Numb.

I agree. That's what it does to me. Horrid.

D,

I appreciate your positive experience, but your post sounds very promotional in tone. Marijuana is illegal in most states, and we do not condone the promotion of illegal substances.

I agree,

It's illegal for a reason, because it kills brain cells. I know potheads and they are not known for their razor sharp intellect. Some of us need all the brain cells we got.

I think trying weed during this time could be very disturbing for most. Especially since we are so sensitive and prone to anxiety.

I don't know if you've done a lot of research cupcake but cannabis does not kill brain cells. That is a myth just like it is a myth that ecstasy kills braincells. THC binds to the cannabinoid receptors in the brain (which ironically are also stimulated by eating a lot of chocolate) and actually exerts a mild neuroprotective effect rather than destroying anything. They've even shown that smoking marijuana reduces the risk of lung cancer, even in chronic smokers. It really is a physically safe substance - its the psychological part that can be disastrous.

Of course I have done research, I wouldn't have said it if I didn't have something to prove it to me. I know way too many people that smoke pot in excess, that's all they do and like I said, they are NOT known for their smarts that's for sure.

I agree with Cupcake.....I am sure you can find "alternative research" possibly written by someone pro pot? But, the scientific reserach indeed....states many, many negative effects of marijuana, both physical...and pyschological side effects....it has been documented for years and years and years...and years  :)

There are also people that will tell you...we didn't land on the moon....because they "read it on the innernet"... :)

My own personal experience with pot tells me it CANT be good for our brains! I smoked alot when I was a teen for a few monhts. My grades dropped dramatically, I didn't feel good, I gained weight, my personal hygiene wasn't first priority like it had been and I coughed non stop. When I stopped, I became a young lady once again, a SMART young lady. ::)

That just goes to show you that pot, unlike these drugs, doesn't cause brain damage since you went right back to where you were pre-marijuana.

I agree that marijuana can cause some people to become really stupid - it also depends on the strain, how much they smoked, etc., as to what the effects are.

I have never seen a pothead though that once they stopped smoking, stayed dumb. Contrast that to those of us who are on benzos that suffer side effects both on and off of them. And I don't know about you but benzo brain fog is pretty damn close to marijuana fog - only it doesn't go away...

I did have some issues with DR/DP off and on for a while even after I stopped. There is a friend here that had DP/DR for YEARS after stopping pot. It could be something that was learned and had to be unlearned, like thought processes or what not..but for me it just stopped showing up but every so often I would feel that "way" for years.

All the potheads I know are still potheads.

Ugh, benzo fog is WAYYYY worse than pot fog

Maybe its a Colorado thing but most of the potheads I know are actually extremely intelligent. The ones that I find that are stupid... were probably dumb to begin with.

Either way though I would take pot fog over benzo fog any day. I'm actually really happy that Wellbutrin has completely cleared my benzo fog even though I'm taking a slightly higher dose of K while I slowly increase my Wellbutrin dose... REM sleep and clear thinking rock.

Man, I must really be out of the swing of things.  I didn't even realize there were so many people who still smoked pot.  I think the last time I even saw pot or knew of anyone who smoked pot was when I was 16 years old, and believe me, that seems like an eternity ago

I just remember the few times I tried it way back when that it made me laugh at the stupidest things, gave me a craving for Ding Dongs and beef jerkey, and made me drive real slow. ::)

Same here, Missy.. The ones I know are pretty old now, but still smoking. Seems like crystal meth is taking over here in my town. Hundreds of arrests, people ruining their health, teeth etc. There are folks my age looking like they are 50 and 60 because of this crap.

Cupcake, love ya to death hon, I am in no way refuting your opinion.... But would like to add my own two cents, in my life, I have known many potheads lol.... I used to be one of them.... But I quit many years ago, due to the potency increasing that caused spiking of paranoia( Wow has that stuff become potent) WOWSERS!!!!  :o.... First person I will mention is my brother, who is extremely intelligent, has been a pothead,Chronic, weed brain(whatever you want to call it for many years) he is also bipolar and it greatly helps him, that said I consider myself intelligent, my brother is borderline genius far from dumb... My best friend is a pothead and has a master's in psychology, and is quite the intellect, when it comes to human behavior...... His IQ is also very high.... I have to concur, with Ethereal, as I have also read studies, that marijuana does not in any way cause brain damage, there is no conclusive research to support that theory.... Actually quite the contrary, a Study done by a Harvard Professor found that marijuana can help the brains creativity response and heighten learning, and states that it does not cause brain damage... In fact Einstein smoked marijuana lol....

Just my two cents.... From what I have read.... It is fair to say so far that marijuana does not cause brain damage......

something else that is so beneficial for speeding up the healing process promoting deep relaxation, easing anger, tension and anxiety is............... Your breath!!...... Regular practice of deep belly breathing, oxygenates your brain and makes it work more efficiently, most people are shallow breathers, which restricts oxygen to there brain, thus causing fatigue, overloaded stress and adrenals and depression and brain fog.....  2 10 min sessions of deep breathing a day can make you more relaxed when stressed and regular practice can actually change your breathing patterns to a more relaxed deep breathing state without you having to make any effort.... Plus it won't give you the munchies ..... It is also is good for trauma, and fear as well as emotional distress and can improve concentration and creativity..... And greatly clears your mind of negative thoughts and unforgiveness even.... If you would like to try, lie down on your bed with one hand on your stomach, breath in slowly through your nose and you will feel your belly rise, try not to use your chest at all, just your belly... Inhale to the count of 5 and concentrate only on your breathing, letting your tummy rise.... Once your belly has risen and you have counted to five, hold your breath for one second(I like to use the one on thousand technique to make sure my breaths are even) then exhale to the count of 6 or 7 slow breaths out..... You will feel the tension move out of your body and you will feel more relaxed..... Try this for 5 min a day when you feel anxious or overwhelmed, like I said it is supposed to speed up the healing process....  I do this for an hour three times a day... And it has greatly aided my withdrawal and brought my anxiety to a minimum.... I have not had a panic attack for over two years, because of this beautiful meditation....

When you first start this you may feel lightheaded or get some weird feelings, that is normal until your body gets used to doing what is meant to do, breathing slow, deep even breaths.... Breath how you did when you were a baby, from your belly.... :)

I hope this will help u as much as it has me, heck it will save you money, and help you cut down on the Sticky Icky...

          GOD Bless.........

There is no evidence that benzodiazepines cause brain damage, in fact I have asked many well versed benzo doc's and addiction specialists who studied these pills, if there is any evidence of research that these pills do cause brain damage and they have all concluded "NO" they do not cause brain damage... They are just a b$@#h to get off of, and some say one of the hardest withdrawals known to man.......

Any drug that causes long term dependence, even after months or sometimes years of cessation of usage, has caused brain damage. End of story. The entire GABA system has to reset itself once you get off of these drugs... You wouldn't consider that brain damage?

There is a difference between reversible brain impairment and structural brain damage, which is permanent.  I think that's what he's getting at.  Certain drugs like MDMA and alcohol in large doses have been shown to cause actual death of brain tissue which can me seen on a brain scan.  Other drugs like marijuana and benzodiazepines cause impairment that sometimes takes a long time to reverse but generally returns to normal.  There are some reports of long-term benzo users who took massive quantities suffering structural damage but this is probably true for most drugs if taken to that extent.

I agree with Ryan...I have had a few discussions with Nate via chat and I believe we was meaning to say permanent damage.  I am not sure that I would even use the termed "damage" at all, although I can see why it is used, because it certainly does cause some negative changes.  No matter what we label it, the important thing is the GABA system, as ER said, will repair itself in time and there is not any evidence to suggest that any of the "damage" is permanent.

Hello D,

You are new to the forum, so I thought I should post you a heads-up: the promotion of illegal drug use at this forum is unacceptable. You can "discuss" most things at this forum, but please refrain from the "promotion" of illicit drug use. Not only is the use of cannabis illegal in most jurisdictions, it is potentially harmful too.

Thanks.

I will say that pot has literally saved my life through withdrawal. My biggest issue was going to be sleep, and Mary Jane stuck by me the entire time, never letting me get a night of sleeplessness.

I dont like promoting pot though, especially here. I still get paranoid when I smoke sometimes, and anybody whose GABA system is a mess right now (basically everyone here) needs to be REALLY careful if they try picking up pot. I mean REALLY careful. I know too many people who have never taken any drugs and have suffered massive panic attacks when high.

I really hope that medical marijuana becomes a reality in every state. If I ever become afflicted with a really bad disorder that pot is very helpful in treating, I will surely move to a state that offers medical marijuana.
