I've been taking diazepam for 20 years.  My maximum daily dose was 20mg, although there were days I took as much as 70mg.  About 5 years ago, I was starting to have problems with my memory, and so, with the help of a physician and information I found on benzo.org.uk, I tapered down to 4mg per day.  About 2 years ago, I started to notice that my right eye was really sore in the morning.  I suspected that my eyelid was closing completely because of the diazepam.  Two weeks ago, I decided to go without the diazepam to see what would happen.  Sure enough my eye healed up, but I went into withdrawal.  My withdrawal was tolerable (2 or 3 panic attacks, constant feelings of being on edge, insomnia), and after I looked at benzo.org.uk again, I decided I would try to ride it out.  It's been two weeks since I've taken a diazepam.  What brings me to the forum is that today I had some dizziness, almost a feeling of vertigo.  I had it at work, and I wanted to see if others had experienced the same thing.

Hi Dwarg  Welcome to Benzobuddies

I am glad you joined the forum.  You did well in getting down to 4 mgs 5 years ago, well done.  Benzodiazepines should not be stopped abruptly. I am glad your symptoms have been tolerable so far!  It can take a while for symptoms to kick in.    You could reinstate and slow taper!  Whatever you choose to do, we are all here for you. Feel free to browse the boards and post questions to any of the dedicated threads.

Check out the Ashton Manual, it’s a definitive resource about these medications. It helps in understanding the effect benzo’s have on our body.  It provides withdrawal information and includes a list of common symptoms
