Tapering Clonazepam

[i ...]

Recommended Posts

Hi, I'm new here :) I'm going to start tapering off clonazepam soon. I already started trying to last month, but it was horrible, maybe because it was too fast for me. I was kinda traumatized by that, and figured that I need support and more knowledge regarding this so that I can taper off clona succesfully. So, because of that I decided to join Benzobuddies. Would love to get to know others who are going through the same situation as I do, hear advice and receive support. As I've mentioned before, I'm trying to taper off clonazepam, which I've taken since Nov 2017 on daily basis. It started with 1mg and now I'm down to 0.25mg. I'm looking forward to hear and receive support from benzobuddies :)

Hi i can do it 2019  and Welcome to Benzobuddies

You will receive much support here, well done on making the decision to taper!  We can help you with support and taper/withdrawal information.  The nature of Benzodiazepines is that they need to be tapered slow!  In general it’s advised to cut your daily dose by between 5% and 10% every 10 - 14 days.  This is depending on how you feel.  If withdrawal symptoms get too tough, you might  cut less, the aim is to keep any symptoms manageable.

Check out the Ashton Manual, It’s great for understanding the effect benzodiazepines have on our body.  The manual also provides tapering and withdrawal information and includes a list of common symptoms

Please feel free to browse the boards and post questions to any of the dedicated threads. You will find some valuable support and info on the forum.

Hi, thanks for the warm welcome!

I don't know if this is a stupid question or what, but what does it mean by 'cut' the dose? Does it mean 'literally' cutting it using a knife, splitter or something? I know 0.25mg clona can be lowered to 0.125mg but I don't know if the actual dose really does exist, or we have to manually cut it smaller by ourselves.

Yeah, I've read The Ashton Manual before, it definitely provided some clarity and help give me hope. But I don't really get the withdrawal schedule especially the substitute part cause I'm not planning to substitute clona with another medication.
