pharmacist's recipe for seroquel suspension in sweet almond oil

Generally, benzos should be tapered last but it is up to you to make the decision.  If you go to a compound pharmacy, you can get a liquid form of Seroquel made.  Here is a sample compound pharmacy "recipe" for Seroquel.

[shadow=red,left] :thumbsup: thank you[/shadow] for this recipe!  :smitten:

can i substitute xylitol granulated for the saccharin sodium it calls for?

okay yall, just spent a hundred bucks on amazon ordering all my supplies to make this and hopefully the ingredients are a close enough match that it will turn out well (fingers crossed 3 times!)

this is what i got:

quetiapine 4g = 4000mg total

25mg pills (160 count)

saccharin sodium 100mg

Necta Sweet Saccharin Sugar Substitute 1/4 Grain 1000 Tablets

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000GG5N9G/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o05_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

it says one 1/4 grain tablet has 16.2mgs of sodium saccharin, but it also lists other ingredients: sodium bicarbonate(baking soda)~will it neutralize or reduce potency of the quetiapine in suspension or be neutral? this is a tiny amount, but it alkalyzes ph~, silicon dioxide(already an ingredient in the suspension recipe), povidone(iodine), & modified cellulose gum(a gelling suspension agent)...so i'm not sure what difference if any it will make to the suspension...but the pure saccharin sodium powder in bulk bags was too expensive so we'll see!

butylated hydroxytoluene (BHT) 100mg

Life Enhancement Bht Plus 100 Caps by Life Enhancement

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01MRWVRGA/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

BHT (butylated hydroxytoluene) is FDA approved as an antioxidant preservative additive for edible oils and fats. Each capsule of BHT PlusTM contains 180 mg of BHT plus 80 mg of ascorbyl palmitate, a fat soluble form of Vitamin C.

and there are other ingredients, silicon dioxide(already an ingredient in the suspension recipe) and rice flour(this is a bulking agent and a starch). i dunno how much of these and (the 80mg of) ascorbyl palmitate (vitamin A) are in each capsule, or how they will affect the suspension if at all, but we'll see!

silica gel, micronized  3g (silicon dioxide)

MakingCosmetics - Silica - 1.8oz / 50g - Cosmetic Ingredient

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0155MH1T0/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

peppermint oil 3ml

Now Essential Oils, Peppermint Oil, 1-Ounce

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00028MKRQ/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&th=1

sweet almond oil 100ml

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000NB9LLA/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&th=1

then for packaging and dispensing the suspension i got these:

Oval Plastic Bottles - 4oz, Amber, CR caps - 12 pcs by AmexDrug

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01GILGKYE/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o05_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1

okay so i decided to [glow=red,2,300]modify[/glow] this formula in regards to mg per ml.

the original compounding formula for 40mg per ml total volume: 100ml quetiapine (Seroquel) was:

quetiapine 4g = 4000mg total

25mg pills (160 count)

saccharin sodium 100mg

Necta Sweet Saccharin Sugar Substitute 1/4 Grain 1000 Tablets

one 1/4 grain tablet has 16.2mgs of sodium saccharin

butylated hydroxytoluene (BHT) 100mg

Life Enhancement Bht Plus 100 Caps by Life Enhancement

Each capsule of BHT PlusTM contains 180 mg of BHT

silica gel, micronized  3g (silicon dioxide)

MakingCosmetics - Silica - 1.8oz / 50g - Cosmetic Ingredient

peppermint oil 3ml

Now Essential Oils, Peppermint Oil, 1-Ounce

sweet almond oil 100ml

Now Solutions Sweet Almond Oil, 4-Ounce

...but i found out it was really hard to measure out the correct doses on my tapering schedule with the syringes, so i changed the formula by multiplying the amounts of everything except for the quetiapine pills by four...so now it looks like this:

quetiapine 4g = 4000mg total  (left this part the same)

25mg pills (160 count) (just counted my pills and realized i have way more 50mg pills than 25mg pills so i changed this part to 50mg pills (80 count)

saccharin sodium 400mg

Necta Sweet Saccharin Sugar Substitute 1/4 Grain 1000 Tablets

one 1/4 grain tablet has 16.2mgs of sodium saccharin (25 tabs=405mg)

butylated hydroxytoluene (BHT) 400mg

Life Enhancement Bht Plus 100 Caps by Life Enhancement

Each capsule of BHT PlusTM contains 180 mg of BHT (2 & 1/4 capules = 405mg)

silica gel, micronized  12g (silicon dioxide)

MakingCosmetics - Silica - 1.8oz / 50g - Cosmetic Ingredient (12g = .4 oz)

peppermint oil 12ml

Now Essential Oils, Peppermint Oil, 1-Ounce (12ml = .4oz)

sweet almond oil 400ml

Now Solutions Sweet Almond Oil, 4-Ounce (400ml = 13.5oz) about 3/4 of a 16oz bottle

...so now each batch will be made up as 400ml liquid suspension in 4 of the 100ml pharmacy bottles i bought, a total of 53 day supply.

so now instead of 40mg per ml of liquid compounded suspension, (if i did my math right), it will be 10mg per ml of liquid compounded suspension.

SO MUCH EASIER TO MEASURE OUT DOSES!

quetiapine 4g = 4000mg total in 400ml liquid suspension mixture

(in other words 4000mg per 400ml, or  40:4 or 10:1 =10mg/1ml)

10mg =1ml

9mg = .9ml

8mg = .8ml

7mg = .7ml

6mg = .6ml

5mg = .5ml

4mg = .4ml

3mg = .3ml

2mg = .2ml

1mg = .1ml

.9mg= .09ml

.8mg= .08ml

etc...

then for packaging and dispensing the suspension i got these:

Oval Plastic Bottles - 4oz, Amber, CR caps - 12 pcs by AmexDrug

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01GILGKYE/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o05_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1

(i will use these since i have them already and i have enough to make 3 batches, each batch a 53 day supply, so... over 5 months' worth of csuspension containers, but in the future i may order the 8 oz bottle since then i would just make the 53 day batch in 2 bottles instead of 4 bottles. not a big deal. the adaptor cap set i just oreder will fit multiple bottle neck sizes and is reusable.)

Sponix BioRx Oral Syringe - 10 mL - Best for dispensing liquids and oils - Individually Wrapped - 10 pcs by BioRx Laboratories

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01BKV54YE/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o05_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

BAXA ExactaMed Oral Liquid Medication Syringe 0.5cc/0.5mL 10/PK Clear Medicine Dose Dispenser With Cap Exacta-Med BAXTER Comar Latex Free by Baxa

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01MTJPD2O/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o05_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Press in Bottle Adapter for Oral Medication Syringe (22mm - 25 Count) by GMS

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00KZ017PC/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o04_s00?ie=UTF8&th=1

OMG these SUCK! please DO NOT BUY! they are not even close to the correct size, they fall right into the bottles through the neck opening, totally usesless. also they have no kind of self sealing hole so they will just pour out the medicine through the hole. the 0.5 tiny baxa slip tip syringes fit (very tightly) but the other 10ml slip tip oral syringes didn't fit these adaptors' holes at all, would just let liquid medicine run out all over your hand while trying to dispense a dose, wasting part of the volume of your tediously prepared suspension! wasting time and money. ...ugh and i dunno if they will issue a refund or make me go through the whole stand in line at a UPS drop-off point and pay shipping 6 bucks, for basically an 8 dollar item for a 2 dollar refund? so just save yourself the time and trouble and money and skip these adaptors.

...so i ordered these as a replacement:

Ezy Dose Calibrated Oral Medicine Syringe │2 TSP (10 mL) with Bottle Adapter│Medicine Dispenser for Children by Ezy Dose Kids

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0040HH7VO/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&th=1

[glow=yellow,2,300]THANKS IN ADVANCE to any who reply[/glow]  :thumbsup:

seems i'm talking to myself here but what the hell. maybe it will help somebody. i don't really care, this is for me to be quite honest so it doesn't matter if people respond or not HA!

anyways...after all of that mess with the compounding pharmacy formula using sweet almond oil and all the other ingredients, i have gone back to the simplicity of a non-oil based solution where i don't have to worry about throwing out so many syringes or using detergent to clean out the oil between doses etc... so for that i decided to go back to my HUMCO Flavor Blend suspension liquid. it is basically water-based. so my syringes will last a lot longer and save me a lot of time cleaning and rinsing and drying equipment. especially since i have 3 seperate meds to taper and 4 different dosing times each day. so simplicity wins.  :thumbsup:

16oz of HUMCO Flavor Blend suspension dilutes 50/50 with H2O so it will make 32 oz of suspension solution before adding any meds. it is more stable though before dilution, so if i'm going to make a 400ml total volume solution, then i would only use 200ml of HUMCO and add/dilute it with 200ml of H2O.

so! let's try this again.  ;)

for a Seroquel/quetiapine Suspension using HUMCO Flavor Blend (cheaper than Ora Plus):

add 200ml of HUMCO Flavor Blend suspension + 200ml of H2O = 400ml total liquid volume

grind to a fine powder 4000 mg of seroquel/quetiapine pills in mortar & pestle

add a small amount of the HUMCO solution & mix well  until it forms an aqueous glob

then transfer it to a bottle for shaking with the remaining HUMCO solution until the total volume of 400ml is reached

shake it like you wanna break it

transfer 100ml of finished seroquel suspended solution into a 4oz pharmacy bottle, insert 20mm Press-In bottle adaptor and cap. refrigerate. repeat this for 3 more bottles of 4oz/100ml each.

the final mixed suspension solution keeps for a couple months refrigerated.

quetiapine 4g = 4000mg total in 400ml liquid suspension mixture

(in other words 4000mg per 400ml, or  40:4 or 10:1 =10mg/1ml)

10mg =1ml

9mg = .9ml

8mg = .8ml

7mg = .7ml

6mg = .6ml

5mg = .5ml

4mg = .4ml

3mg = .3ml

2mg = .2ml

1mg = .1ml

.9mg= .09ml

.8mg= .08ml

etc...

for me, this is a 53+ day supply of quetiapine in suspension. at $12.43 a bottle,  since it's 16oz/473ml bottle of HUMCO, i only use about $10 worth per 53 day batch...so my costs aside from syringes and bottles are just my medication and the HUMCO. it comes down to about $6 a month for my suspension plus about 30$ copay but i get more than a month's worth of pills for that. i'd say it probably costs about $10-15 total for suspension liquid and medicine for a month supply... way cheaper than the sweet almond oil suspension!

so if i could get someone math-literate to check my formula above that would be great. if not, i'll just take my chances.

You did well it measurements, the solution should be fine to dissolve. The oils will make it thick oil solution and take 10-15 minutes to dissolve. It would dissolve Seroquel quicker if you crush it up before you put in solution.

[glow=yellow,2,300]hey trench  :)

btw: what was your job in the pharmacy field like? when i see it in your sig i always wanted to ask that!

thanks for responding, but i wasn't trying to dissolve seroquel in the oil, just suspend it per the original compounding pharmacy formula in the original "blue" link. i wasn't asking about the sweet almond oil suspension, but rather the math on my HUMCO Flavor Blend Suspension...in my last post i explained why i abandoned the sweet almond oil formula for the new one with HUMCO...you can read it below:

anyways...after all of that mess with the compounding pharmacy formula using sweet almond oil and all the other ingredients, i have gone back to the simplicity of a non-oil based solution where i don't have to worry about throwing out so many syringes or using detergent to clean out the oil between doses etc... so for that i decided to go back to my HUMCO Flavor Blend suspension liquid. it is basically water-based. so my syringes will last a lot longer and save me a lot of time cleaning and rinsing and drying equipment. especially since i have 3 seperate meds to taper and 4 different dosing times each day. so simplicity wins.

10mg =1ml

9mg = .9ml

8mg = .8ml

7mg = .7ml

6mg = .6ml

5mg = .5ml

4mg = .4ml

3mg = .3ml

2mg = .2ml

1mg = .1ml

.9mg= .09ml

.8mg= .08ml

etc...

for me, this is a 53+ day supply of quetiapine in suspension. at $12.43 a bottle,  since it's 16oz/473ml bottle of HUMCO, i only use about $10 worth per 53 day batch...so my costs aside from syringes and bottles are just my medication and the HUMCO. it comes down to about $6 a month for my suspension plus about 30$ copay but i get more than a month's worth of pills for that. i'd say it probably costs about $10-15 total for suspension liquid and medicine for a month supply... way cheaper than the sweet almond oil suspension!

so if i could get someone math-literate to check my formula above that would be great. if not, i'll just take my chances.
