Hi wishihadtapered,

I was just reading one of your threads, I'm sorry to hear you've suffered for so long after only taking the drug a short time.  My experience was nightmarish just like so many people here, but no matter how many symptoms I had or the severity, they all left when I healed.

It's so unfair this happened to you and probably no one in your life can understand but thank goodness we can reach out for understanding here.

I only take this poison for 3 week it’s been 21 months now I am improving but I am still very much in withrawal

Since I am a hypochondriac it’s been so hard for me accepting these withrawal symptoms

I think acceptance it’s even harder when we were on it for such a short time and yet still suffering from it for no reason

I did a cold turkey and healed too.

My success story link is in my signature.

You will heal too.  Some people just take a lot longer than others

Also, being a hypochondriac is probably complicating things?  What's still withdrawal and what symptoms have you "convinced" or talked yourself into having?

Praying for a complete recovery for you!

Cold Turkey does not mean the same thing for all people. I was only prescribed 1 mg. of Klonopin. I took a bit more than that at some point but gradually stabilized on that dosage for a very long time, had cut down to maybe .5 mg. then abruptly stopped.

That's not the same thing as taking a very large dosage or being on several addictive drugs at the same time.

Even so, the jump I made in almost zero time was pure hell, and I would recommend to anyone else: taper. Don't cold turkey.

However, other people have done it and recovered, so it is different for different people.

By the time people here told me I had done a stupid thing - and it really was stupid, but I knew no better - I was already into it, and once you have cut a drug and you are managing to carry on, it's a very frightening idea to go back on it with the idea of eventually getting off it again, but maybe way in the future.

The wise thing is to come here, get help, then get off these drugs slowly!

I am 90 percent healed and was sure I had developed MS, Parkinson’s and a whole host of neurological damage that was permanent. Not so....  have faith and acceptance in this process despite feeling like your health is ruined. Those who told me that I would heal were NOT lying!

Gosh I’m in that boat right now. I’m constantly searching the internet to see what all the symptoms of MS and Parkinsons are. I have these vibrating feelings that come and go and my legs and feet feel like they are very sensitive, like a ticking/sunburnt feeling. These physical symptoms are driving me nuts... I was on Xanax for only a month, taking these pills at night for sleep. Can’t beleive it’s been so rough. This is only my 5th day off cold turkey.

Thanks for posting that, makes me feel like I’m not the only one thinking that way.

Going cold turkey means this: a person has taken a drug. They want to stop taking it so they just STOP, without tapering off. With most drugs this is fine, but many drugs need to be weaned off of by tapering. Some heart and BP meds are like that. Narcotics and benzos are definitely like that.

When I was ON benzos I had many awful symptoms. Because I didn't know tolerance withdrawal exists, I assumed I had some awful disease. (BTW, I am an RN!) I saw specialists, who told me I might have fibromyalgia, M.S., Parkinsons, and other goofy stuff. No one could PROVE I had those things. Once I got OFF benzos and ADS, all those symptoms just disappeared. Turns out it was all caused by my psych meds. Benzos and ADS. I am now NOT depressed, NOT anxious, NOT an insomniac. Just a basically normal women with problems unrelated to benzos or psych drugs.

You do need to be careful consulting Dr Internet! Reading all that stuff may worry more than is necessary. Might be better to just focus on recovering from benzos and move on from there.

9 years of Klonopin & Remeron. Cold turkey 2.5 moths ago. It seems I've read horrible stories if you taper as well. I was low dose so seizures were not an issue. I would highly recommend CBD, seeing a cognitive behavior therapist, and plenty of exercise. I'm still dealing with 3 hours max good sleep, back pain between my shoulders, and tingling in head, neck, jaw. I have found that running, and weight training to exhaustion " burns out " the nerve sensations for a several hour period. Finally all the usual stuff, eat well, try your best to keep a consistent schedule etc.. PM me if your struggling and need an ear and input. I have learned so much from reading articals, my counselor, and other's experiences. Your not alone, what you feel is real, and it DOES get better.

I had an MRI last week to check for MS. The results were negative for any brain/neurological damage. So the way I feel is totally inexplicable by medical knowledge. It's so discouraging not being able to attach a diagnosis to how I feel. I have the WORST brain fog and depression, that I never had prior to taking the "medication" (AKA poison).

How long has it taken to get to where you feel %90 healed?

YES!!!! I c/t and healed.

How long did your recovery process take? I know everyone is different, but I've been going through this since my C/T 21 months ago and I'm starting to lose hope that I will ever feel any semblance of "normal" again.

Hellbutrin,

What you are going through is normal. For some reason, a few people have truly horrible withdrawals. Going CT may play a part in this but I have met many who taper and feel just as bad.

I know how awful you feel. I can tell you it is not permanent but you probably wont believe me. There is just something about benzo WD that MAKES you assume how you feel is going to be forever. I presume this is caused by your over-worked brain, a brain trying to heal.

Like others, I developed some truly awful symptoms while on benzos. I was told I might have Ms. Lou Gehrigs. Parkinsons. Fibromylgia. CFS. I had none of those things. It was all caused by the benzos and ADS  I used to take.

I have heard stories like yours and mine so many times. I wish the medical community (which includes me!) were better informed...but we are not.

I can also tell you that I think almost everyone heals from this stuff. You wont believe me until it happens to you, I know. I have been on BB for almost 7 years and have read thousands of posts. I strongly feel that the vast majority of people DO heal, no matter what you might read.

Just hang on tight and go for it. Your healing time will arrive.

Hi East,

I so appreciate your patient and giving spirit when it comes to providing reassurance to those of us that are in the thick of withdrawal battle. Can you say how long it took for the cognitive/mental symptoms to resolve for you? My most difficult symptoms are depression (never had depression prior to withdrawal), difficulty concentrating, almost total lack of short term memory, anhedonia, and head pressure. I don't have any physical symptoms, which I understand is something in itself to be thankful for, but I would trade 20 physical symptoms for these mental symptoms to go away.

Hellbutrin,

It took me a couple years for cognitive function to be normal. But I think my situation was a lot worse then yours, or even most everyone on BB now. I took HUGE doses of benzos for thirty long years. I will be totally honest here. I am an RN and had easy access to benzos. They were not accounted for back then (they are now). I took pills left in the med cart. Halcion was my favorite. A normal low dose of this benzo is 0.25 mgs. Most nights I took THREE times that plus perhaps other benzos I found. This is embarrassing to me now. I truly am ashamed of how I was back then.

I did this crap for 20 years. The last 12 years, a psych  doc prescribed my meds. By then I was in profound tolerance withdrawal, but since I did not that existed, I assumed I had some sort of medical disease. The doctor prescribed Klonapin, Ambien and two ADs which I took for 12 years. My health went downhill fast, thanks to benzos. My medical doc finally realized why my health was so bad and he called the shrink. I was suddenly cut off from my drugs.

My situation is a lot more extreme than most people. A LOT worse. My point is this: I DID heal from this  crap. It was not easy, and many times I thought about reinstating (if I could have found a doctor willing to). Thank GOD I kept on going.

Hellbutrin. I was like you in one way. Mental symptoms were by far, the worst. The physical symptoms I did know could happen, being a nurse. My mental symptoms were always my worst. I carried them for for - no lie - about 3 years. But I seriously doubt that will happen to you! You have not taken enormous doses of benzos for thirty years like I did. I always tell people not to compare themselves to others. Waste of time. YOU will heal when you heal, and that could be soon , or not so.

BIG hug to you, my friend-
