Shingrix Shingles Vaccine

[...]

Recommended Posts

Just a heads up, for those old enough to need a shingles vaccine (usually over 50).  The new vaccine, Shingrix, is much more effective than past vaccines in preventing shingles, but it's done in two stages - you get the first one, then go back 2 to 6 months later for the booster.  I had my booster yesterday and had very bad side effects, including blacking out and collapsing at home some 16 hours after receiving it.  About 1/6th of people who get this vaccine will get side effects, usually from the 2nd shot.  If you get this vaccine, make sure you have a couple of days free after the second shot. I would guess that those of us in WD have a higher chance of side effects, and worse symptoms. It's better than shingles, but just be careful.
