Ativan ,want to quit

Been taking Ativan as needed for about 12 years,was .5 mg till about 2 years ago.

Last couple years been taking 1mg every other not at bedtime.

Doctor wants me to start Paxil 10 mg

I want to stop Ativan

For those starting a taper, we generally recommend starting out at a rate of 5 to 10% every 10-14 days, then adjusting the taper to suit your own needs.  Note: very short term users may be able to taper faster.

 

Withdrawal symptoms, which vary widely but commonly include anxiety and insomnia, often occur during a taper, but these are temporary and will get better in time.  In general, first tapers are easier, but cold turkeys or multiple withdrawals may be more severe and longer lasting.  Here are a few links to get you started:

Welcome! I have been taking Ativan for 10 years and also want to stop! I've been talking with my psychiatrist about tapering starting the first week of January. This site is so helpful to gain information & insight. I wish you all the best 

My Doctor wrote a script for Paxil 10 mg,to replace Ativan,but gave me no instructions to get off Ativan.

Will Paxil help or hurt quiting Ativan?

Took .2 mil first two days then just stopped.

Been a week feel fine.
