Doubled, crooked, but especially fang-like upper canine teeth became a fashion trend in 2013 amongst Japanese girls, who paid good money to get fanged.

That high society ohaguro smile...


While not unique to Japan, teeth blackening was fashionable and a symbol of status for hundreds of years. Things that were pitch-black, such as lacquered objects, were seen as aesthetically pleasing.
