NEJM article

When I was experiencing the worst of withdrawal, one of the things that was difficult for me to deal with was a recurring thought that it wasnt really withdrawal, I was doing it to myself i.e. it was all in my head. Despite everything I read here I had so much doubt and fear. I recently ran across this statement in a NEJM article:

“Many prescribers don’t realize that benzodiazepines can be addictive and when taken daily can worsen anxiety, contribute to persistent insomnia, and cause death.”

Our Other Prescription Drug Problem Anna Lembke MD, Jennifer Papac MD, and Keith Humphreys PhD. New England Journal of Medicine 2018; 378:693-695.

For anyone seeking validation from the medical profession, it doesnt get more validating than publication in this journal.

I am posting this in case it helps someone, NOT to start a list of stories about doctors being ignorant. Please remember the BB rules about treating the medical profession and practitioners with respect.

Take care,

JKS
