[Fi...]
Hi All- I'm a 43 year old college professor who just started her ativan taper in November and it's been challenging to say the least but I remain committed. Without the proper guidance, I was doing 30-50% tapers and have now gotten down to only 0.25mg 2 x per day. Have seemed to reach the worst of the withdrawal symptoms and I can't cut the pills down any smaller. I've read about a diazepam substitute but at this point my Doctor won't approve that and has suggested I cut to 0.25mg once per day for 2 weeks and then 0.25mg every other day. This seems ill informed and dangerous. Not sure what to do now.
[ma...]
Hello Finnegancharles Welcome to Benzobuddies! We are glad you joined our community, you will get plenty of support here. Sounds like you are being asked to taper off too fast. The rule of thumb is to reduce the daily dose by somewhere between 5% and 10% every 10 - 14 days. It’s okay to go slower than this, whatever feels comfortable, the aim is to try to keep symptoms manageable. Some members use titration method, to slow it down further. I would suggest that you familiarise yourself with the Ashton Manual, It is a great resource for understanding the effect benzo’s have on our body. It provides Tapering and withdrawal information and includes a list of common symptoms You will find some very valuable support and information on the forum. Our members are happy to share their personal experiences with you and support you.. Please feel free to browse the boards and post questions to any of the dedicated threads. I'll leave you a few links: The Ashton Manual.
