Three lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein II,
who invented a kind of "contingent"
love song; the problem being how
to get the couple in love quickly, but
credibly. Hammerstein's solution was
to have them imagine it, and even
while denying it, watch it happen -
all in the course of one song. Genius.
