Set back after 2 doses years later

Hello, I finished a long taper in 2010 and suffered symptoms for 2-3 years after. Just last month I was going through a stressful time and my daughter had left all her medication here, I foolishly took 2 doses of Ativan a few days apart. It set me back in W/D not as severe as before but I'm getting real scared it has been 5 weeks since I took them and it doesn't seem to be going away. Has anyone else had this happen, and how long did it last?

Welcome to the forum! We're glad  to have you as a new member.  Once I'd been off benzos a few months, I got rid of them and never had them in my house again.  I think that's the best way to avoid such situations.

You'll find lots of information and support here.  Our members have been through all aspects of withdrawal, and you're likely to find  people who understand what you're going through.

For those who are starting a new taper, we suggest reducing no faster than 5-10% every 10-14 days at first, and then adjusting the taper rate to suit your own needs.  One exception: very short-term users of a few weeks or less may be able to taper faster.  Having some withdrawal symptoms is normal, especially near the end of a taper and for a few months after discontinuing the medication.  First/only withdrawals after a slow taper tend to be easier than multiple reinstatements/withdrawals over time, which may make symptoms worse and longer lasting. The most common symptoms are anxiety and insomnia, but there are many others. These are temporary and will go away in time.

Here are a few links you may find useful:

Post Withdrawal Support Board

The Ashton Manual is an authoritative source on what to expect in withdrawal and recovery.  Dr. Ashton is an expert in the field. Section III explains and describes symptoms, and there is also a section with suggested taper schedules.

Please take the time to Create a Signature.  This will allow others to see where you are in the process so they can better support you.

Again, welcome!

Thank You Megan, which board should I go to to see if I get other replies or do I just check on the introduction. I'm really wondering if anyone else has had this experience. I'll never keep them in the house again, My daughter just asked if she could leave all her meds here while she ws in the nursing home( it's a long story) but I really didn't think I'd touch them but I did.

The best board go go to is the Post Withdrawal Support board, and the link is in my first post above.  :smitten:
