Question about diet

[be...]

Recommended Posts

I'm sure this has been covered a lot but I am preparing to start a taper in a couple of months.

I have a problem with alcohol and it goes without saying that I can't drink (even a bit-- right?)

What are dietary suggestions? Following a generally anti-inflammatory diet?

Hi bellladonnaa,

I personally would abstain from alcohol throughout the entire taper and for a while afterwards until you feel back to normal.  Many people report that alcohol can cause a real setback during benzo recovery.  I had 2 waves caused by alcohol, it put me back into acute for a couple of weeks each time.  I will not drink again for a while.  Here's a very good thread extensively discussing this issue, I found it very helpful, both sides of the issue are presented: www.benzobuddies.org/forum/index.php?topic=76180.90

As far as diet goes, many recommend eating clean whole foods diet, no processed foods, refined sugar, or caffeine.  Seems this way of eating works for many people during benzo withdrawal.  Following a general anti-inflammatory diet based on whole foods is an excellent idea, in my opinion.  Good luck with your taper!
