Need A Taper Plan for K

Hey,

After a few weeks of insane misery, endless vomiting, shakes, etc. (you know the drill) I had my script refilled. I was originally prescribed .5mg in the morning .5mg in the afternoon and 1mg before sleep for night terrors. This afternoon I took roughly .16mg at 1 and .16mg at 5:30. I don't feel great but can eat and I know I'm not dying.

 

Although I am a bit disappointed, I must be able to work. I feel like I will have a better chance beating this for good now.

 

Can anyone help with a liquid taper plan? I would also appreciate any kind words.

I am sorry you had such intense w/d symptoms. When I first started my taper, I was vomiting for over two months 24/7.  Nothing would stop it and IVs became a regular event.  So my doctor had me go back to the dose that I felt somewhat ok at which was 1.0mg.  It was so hard to go back up, but in the end it was the right thing to do. We also decided that I would use liquid Klonopin made at a compounding pharmacy.  This way I could really control the dose.  I can't say enough about a liquid taper.  I still had intense w/d but since the dose was correct each time, it was better than the first part of the taper using the pills.

 

You sound like you have a great attitude and I like how you say "To the future!"  You are correct, better things will be coming and you will have more windows in the future.  Hang in there and don't worry about going back up. It's done. Do what you need to do to finish this journey and hopefully feel somewhat ok in the process.  Good luck! You CAN do this and I am confident that you WILL do this!

I can help you with a plan. Need to know a couple of things.

1) How do you want to Titrate? Milk or Oraplus & water  or?

2) What dose do you want to start from?  .25mg 2x a day?

3) What % &  rate do you want to reduce at?

4) Do you want to use a small amount of alcohol to dissolve tablets or crush them?

5) Make a suspension or solution?

5) How many mg is your tablets?

I would like to crush them and use a milk titration. I have read a lot of plans but they did not seem to fit my needs. I would like to go slow to minimize wd symptoms. I know I can't avoid them but I must work.

Try not to be so hard on yourself. I had to reinstate too. I really sucked but what else can one due, especially if you have to work everyday. Sometimes there is just no other way around it. So just do the best you can & try not to worry about it. 

 

Ok... I will come up with a plan for you starting at 1.5mg. Does reducing @10% every 14days sound ok? You can always slow the plan down further by "holding" at any particular dose if it becomes necessary.

I almost had it at 1mg yesterday. I woke up panicked at 3am and took another .25mg. Sigh, I am almost stable. I hoped not to go above 1 but I will live. Just typing to get it out of my head...

Here is a plan for you to try.

 

Plan is to reduce from 1.5mg Klonopin at the rate of 10% every 14 days. This plan is split into 4 stages using a liquid suspension made from whole milk.

 

Equipment needed: 100 increment graduating cylinder, mortise & pestle, 1ml tuberculin syringe (without needle) (each line = .001), 10ml oral syringe

 

STAGE #1: 1:100 (1mg=100ml) 1ml = .01mg

1) Measure out 150ml of milk. Place in a suitable container with a lid.

2) Crush 1.50mg of Klonopin tablet

3) Put 1.50mg crushed Klonopin tablet into container with 150ml of whole milk. Shake well before each use.

4) Pour & measure daily dose into 100ml graduating cylinder & drink.  Toss or store reduction in a separate jar with lid.

 

STAGE #2: 1:100 (1mg=100ml) 1ml = .01mg

1) Measure out 100ml of milk. Place in a suitable container with a lid.

2) Crush 1mg of Klonopin tablet

3) Put 1mg crushed Klonopin tablet into container with 100ml of whole milk. Shake well

4) Pour & measure daily dose into 100ml graduating cylinder & drink. Toss or store reduction in a separate jar with lid.

 

STAGE#3: 1:100 (1mg=100ml) 1ml = .01mg

1) Measure out 50ml of milk. Place in a suitable container

2) Crush .50mg of Klonopin tablet

3) Put .50mg crushed tablet into 50ml of whole milk. Shake well

4) Pour & measure daily dose into 100ml graduating cylinder & drink. Toss or store reduction in a separate jar with lid.

 

STAGE#4: 1:100 (1mg=100ml) 1ml = .01mg

1) Measure out 25ml of milk. Place in a suitable container

2) Crush .25mg of Klonopin tablet

3) Put .25mg crushed tablet into 50ml of whole milk. Shake well

4) Pour & measure daily dose into 100ml graduating cylinder & drink. Toss or store reduction in a separate jar with lid.

 

**CALCULATIONS ARE ROUNDED OFF**

 

10% of 1.50mg = .15mg; .15/14days = .01mg(1ml)= This will be TOTAL DAILY REDUCTION  each day for 14 days.

Start by removing 1ml DAILY for 2 weeks. Once finished us the  Bi-weekly table below for the new percentage & new amount to reduce daily. Remember to keep track of each daily reduction. Here is a sample chart to get you started.
