I got off of 300mg Lyrica but still have the benzo to go. There's a lot of people on the Lyrica Survivors fb page who used it to come off of benzos and have gone through hell quitting it. It took me 9 months to get off of it and from the experiences of others it is just as hard to withdrawal from as a benzo. It's horribly addictive and you build a tolerance to it very quickly it would seem. Don't touch it would be my advice.

I'm waiting to recover from my quetiapine taper and quiting alcohol before I start my V taper. Not that I was an alcoholic but was a few beers (2 or 3) a night person so probably have a dependency issue.

Hope this helps

Staz

I agree. I am currently tapering Lyrica, and so far it has been worse than tapering benzo. The risk is that you just get another medication and has to go through hell once again when you want to get off it.

A lot of people on the FB Lyrica Survivors page would agree with you MAVO. Some take over a year to recover even when tapering slowly. A friend of mine in acute Lyrica w/d tried to take her life twice as a result of being on this drug and c/t after a few months. It has taken her a year to recover and she's still got 20mg of V to come off of. I'm 7 months off and struggling but that could just be my V. Lyrica is about to become a controlled drug in the UK and is now the biggest drug epidemic in our prison system and has been now recognised as addictive as benzo at last.

Please do not touch this drug or Gabapentin.

I fully agree with the previous posters. Lyrica is an addictive med. It made me gain weight and lose hair. I took it for a year. Started from 75 mg, ended up on 300 mg. I CTed Lyrica, cause it made me gain weight and I have an Eating Disorder. It helped me sleep in like 1-2 first mos. Then it just gave me a "high", much better than Valium.

I have used it throughout my benzo PAWS and it has helped. But now I'm seeing it is quite addictive. Maybe that's just because it helps get rid of my benzo depression. It gives me some other worldly insomnia in the following days after using it though. It's like my brain isn't even capable of feeling tired.

Shamo3, maybe you could switch to some sleep supplements? Melatonin, vitamin B6, magnesium, lemon balm, L-Theanine, hops etc. Or antihistamine psych meds for sleep? Maybe a good sleep-promoting read. Or some meditation before sleep? Try looking for a benzo-wise sleep specialist. Talked about those mood stabilizers affecting GABA with my pdoc again. I mean Lyrica and Gabapentin. He says anything that affects GABA is dangerous. Lyrica is probably a much lesser evil than benzos. But it may turn against you in the long run.

Yeah it probably will. I notice that if I take it more than a couple of days in a row my head starts spinning a bit .
