[La...]
The full title of this Pakistani study is "Poisons Implicated In Homicidal, Suicidal And Accidental Cases In North-West Pakistan". According to this study, benzodiazepines are considered "poisons". https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/28718541
[ba...]
Thanks Lapis, Poisoning by benzodiazepines, organophosphates and phencyclidine are the most common causes of intoxication in population of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Source of poisoning varies with gender for organophosphates, benzodiazepines and tricyclic antidepressants. TIL And nothing will be done as per usual. Protect you and yours. Guest [vi...]
great post. epidemiology of clinical depression in kashmir is 50% (most of whom are women) whereas epidemiology of depression in death row is 30% globally. indian kashmir and pakistani kashmir clock the highest per capita consumption of benzos in the two countries. these are some statistics i stumbled on while exploring this subject last month. i think we can guess why 50% of kashmiris are depressed -- and it is not just for separatist strifes. [La...]
It's the first time I've seen the word "poisons" used to describe benzodiazepines They're on the WHO list of essential medicines, so it's an interesting choice of words. Obviously, these medications are problematic around the world when used inappropriately, e.g. long-term.
