Hi All,

I have been fighting withdrawal symptoms (nausea, headaches, shakiness, anxiety) for a few weeks now and I'm considering reinstatement.  I need to know two things:

1.)  Please review my signature, and let me know exactly how I should handle the reinstatement (ie what dose, how long before taper, what taper etc).  I'm VERY much in the dark regarding this.

2.)  Please also chime in as to whether or not you feel I should stick this out or if reinstatement is a good idea.  I would like to avoid protracted withdrawals and alleviate my symptoms, but at the same token I do not want to have to go through a taper again if I don't have to.

Much Obliged,
-Erik

Tin Foil Hat for Benzo Symptoms?

« Reply #1 on: February 08, 2010, 04:25:23 PM »

Hi Erik! Sounds like we are both at almost the same point. You have jumped and I am close. Like you my symptoms (anxiety, inner trembling & insomnia) have increased.

I am wondering if I should up dose & come off again more slowly or just continue. My thoughts are that maybe I should just tough it out and wait for relief and then I think ( don't want protracted withdrawl) maybe I should up dose (get relief) and continue down. Then I think may be up dosing would just mean going through the same issues again.

I have posted question much like yours and  I am also looking for advise and help on how to continue the healing.  I talked to TC about this issue and he told me about his having to up dose and
then do a real slow taper. He did say he had some thoughts though that maybe he should have just toughed it out but now is happy with his new taper plan.

I am sorry that you are suffering and hope you get some good advise and feel better soon!

Considering reinstatement...

Hi Erik-

The above is your signature line. You did quite a rapid taper, 26 days from 2mg's Klonopin....that is pretty harsh, close to a cold turkey, IMO.

If you were to reinstate, from what I have read, it should be at the lowest dose you think you can stabilize on, then hold for 1-2 weeks before beginning a gradual, slow taper. A taper reduction is roughly 10% cut based on your total daily dose, hold for 1-2 weeks and then make another cut and so on down.

There is no guarantee that reinstating will help. It is really up to you to weigh your options and do what you feel is best for you. Whatever you decide, we will support you.

Thanks JB,

I think one of my main problems was that I was only taking 1 pill a day; IE 1 2mg pill at 8 am, and that's it.  I was thinking about reinstating .5 mg, twice a day for a while and then tapering from there.  What do you all think?

Erik-

IMO, spreading the dose out would help to keep the medication more level in your system, you could dose every 12 hours. Do you have the .5mg tabs of Klonopin? If not, you may want to see if you can obtain that script from your doctor. As you begin your taper, you can reduce by .125mg's, which would be 1/4 of a .5mg tab every 1-2 weeks(listen to your body, it will be your best guide), alternate the dose you reduce from, take it slow and steady so that you can have a successfull outcome thumbsup

Wishing you the best.

To make matters worse, a phone call just let me know that my doctor is "very hesitant to represcribe the medication since I'm already off of it."

Fuck.

Erik,

Hesitant is not a No. Can you make an appointment with your doctor and go in for a one on one, eye to eye discussion about this? If you go in with a "rough draft plan" and your doctor can see that you are determined to do this the right way, it may help.

If I do have this conversation, would it be better for me to go on a different drug than klonopin, such as something longer-acting?

Erik-

The only benzo longer acting then Klonopin is Valium. IMO, I would stick with Klonopin as you alraedy know how you feel on this, in the end, the decision is between you and your doctor.

Hi Erik,

As JB stated, the other option would be valium, but I have seen mixed results with this one too.  ALot of people love the crossover, and quite a few seem to get depressed on the crossover.

I agree with Jb that spreading out your dosage may help.  I also was prescribed klonopin to be taken once a day and found that as I tapered I had to split my dosage into two doses or I would get interdose withdrawal symptoms before I took my nighttime dose.
