Am I the only one who is completely fed up with his doctor(s).  They just don't get it.  I had a protracted withdrawal back in the summer of 08 and then was on cipro during the withdrawal and after for 6 months.  Then did a Zoloft withdrawal.  These doctors don't seem to think that all of that's a big deal.  I mean if you've never experienced a protracted withdrawal then you might not understand.  But I know most of you on here a sympathetic if not have had one yourself or a difficult one in general.  I recently just printed out all this info on benzo protraced withdrawal syndrome and sent it to my psych, my primary care and my neuro so hopefully they start to get a FRIGGEN clue. I'm done!  I'm sick and tired of hearing oh you shouldn't be so sensitive to these drugs or you never stick with anything long enough to try it (mostly stuff I tried in the past a/d's etc ect).  And another one that's highly rare for that to happen.  Or my favorite of all time.  I've never had a patient with your condition. i.e. protracted withdrawal, brain zaps, sensitivety to prescription meds ect ect.

My psych is the one who actually relapsed me before Christmas telling me you can't get addicted 1 mg of ativan a day for a few months is impossible to get addicted to.  It's such a small dose it isn't staying in your blood stream long enough.  OH YEAH REALLY!!!  Until about 2 weeks later when I was getting interdose withdrawals.  And now taking baby steps to get off valium so I don''t have a nervous breakdown.

I"M JUST SICK OF THE FUNNY LOOKS AND HORRIBLE ADVICE I GET FROM THESE A-HOLES!!!!!
WHO"S WITH ME!!!!    tickedoff

I am not fed up with doctors, I am fed up with my psychiatrist. Even though she is gravely mistaken on how to get off benzo's, and should have never given me a benzo to begin with, she is still a very nice woman and I do not "hate" her. If anything, I am simply very upset with her treatment plan for me.

But I do understand the frustration you're experiencing. I think you did the right thing sending your doctors information. You have every right to be angry with them, but keep in mind that most doctors didn't fall off of the christmas tree yesterday, and it takes A LOT of education/very difficult studying to go through med school. If anything, I believe that the dangers of benzo's were not stressed to them during their schooling. I have found that many young doctors are very aware of benzo's, and a lot don't even give them out. Also, ever heard of "Big Pharm"? They practically run our health care in the US. The makers of benzo's have always told doctors "these are perfectly safe", "they are not addictive", "patients should not have complications stopping them", because in the end, they are doing business, not health care.

Always remember that if it weren't for doctors and modern medicine, we would all probably die by the time we were 40. There are some flaws in medicine, but I still trust doctors to a very high degree.

I have found through my experience that there is a huge variation on what doctors understand about benzos.  I have found the ones that don't seem to understand much about them are the ones that like to prescribe them, and the handfull of docs and nurses that I have talked to that truely get what they do are usually opposed to prescribing them on a long term basis.  I think the information is out there, but alot of times, as HY alluded to, it seems that the docs just believe whatever Big Pharma tells them.  I don't think this makes them bad doctors, because alot of people go seeking these drugs, and in the end, we are responsible for what we take, but I do wish more doctors would see both sides of the benzo arguement rather than just reading the information provided to them by the drug companies.
