We definitely have another publicity drive this week on prescribed drug dependence

Short item on BBC Newsnight ... tonight

Anti depressants national paper tomorrow ...  Radio 5 Live at the weekend

Journalist also looking for people on opoids and meeting with Prince William  .... his charity promotes talking, not pills.

James Davies, author of forthcoming book, Sedated Society, speaking at some event tonight with Prince William.

This is all positive news.

Follow up article to last week's piece doubt Luke Montagu and forthcoming book "Sedated Society".

Not sure if these details have been in the popular press before.  I am so pleased to see this.

There has been a huge amount on TV recently about the NHS which is currently in crisis.  I am hoping the publicity about benzos and A/Ds won't get lost amidst all the other health care issues which are extremely serious now.

Short piece on TV tonight - a mixture of addiction / dependence .... about 5 minutes.

You are very welcome ..

I have just heard that BBC Scotland is now looking for people to talk about anti depressants .. they are planning some sort of a programme.  This is the first interest in Scotland really apart from my own interview which was only a couple of minutes.

I just re-read this Fiona and this is great, just great!  It's print (book and newspaper), TV, online, radio.  It's all the media at the same time.  And Prince William!  I'm so glad to hear about his charity. I heard on our news recently that his charity had to do with mental health and I had assumed it was the same ol', same ol'.  He's on our side! and he makes then news.

So if James Davies, the Editor of Sedated Society is speaking with Prince William tonight at an event... then, he knows Luke Montagu and his story.  OMG that makes me happy.  :yippee:

I wish I was there.

It is quite incredible what is happening right now ..  I am not in the inner circle so don't know what is happening exactly but I get emails from the insiders with little hints that "something" is indeed taking place .. and the whole issue of PDD is going to blow up.

The BBC, Prince William ... this is the Establishment ... not to be ignored ...

This is the best News to wake up too, and thanks for informing us about all the latest. Things are going to change, I just know it will, and I look to see you sometime again being interviewed and this time it will be the interview that will tell the truth of what everyone has had to go through.

Thanks.

Hi BG

It is good news, isn't it.

I am not sure that I will be on TV again but my friend, Ann Kelly, damaged from A/Ds is going to be on BBC TV here in Scotland in the near future. And believe me she is one fiery woman, far more fiery than me.  She has a signed letter from doctors stating that all the damage she is left with is from A/Ds so there is no dispute about that fact, none at all. She sleeps with ice packs strapped to her head because of a burning sensation in her brain.

I think A/Ds is more of a focus here in the UK ... benzos less so because prescribing rates have gone down by about 50% while A/D prescribing is through the roof.  There is a lot of concern about the illegal trade in benzos and addiction but that is a separate issue.

Will keep you all posted.

Thanks Fiona for this, i'm in the UK and currently going through a hard fought for taper. Can I ask what does 'PDD' stand for?

Many thanks.

PDD = Prescribed Drug Dependence.

Speaking of which, here's the link to the All Party Parliamentary Group for Prescribed Drug Dependence:

https://prescribeddrug.org/

Not much action from them recently, but maybe they'll have something to say with all of this media coverage.

Good to meet you, Fleety.  I hope you do well with your taper.

The APPG isn't doing much right now because everyone is waiting for a response from the Department of Health to the British Medical Association stating whether or not they are prepared to fund a helpline and specialist services for PDD.  All the recent publicity on antidepressants  (Daily Mail, Newsnight, Radio 5 Live this weekend, BBC Scotland soon) will put added pressure on the Department of Health I imagine, I am sure that is the intention.

Lapis - I have tweeted James Davies' new book "Sedated Society" to the Health Minister in Scotland and the leaders of the Scottish Labour and Conservative Parties.  I also tweeted the Daily Mail article.  I understand that these people do read their tweets, or so I am told anyway!!!  :D :D :D

Fiona

Wow, Fiona, great work! I do hope they read their tweets. And I was really pleased to read about Prince William and the Heads Together work. It's impressive! Also, what happens over there is noticed here, so you never know what kind of ripple effects there might be.

We'll be waiting to hear from you regarding BBC5 Live, so don't forget to update us. I think it started at 5 p.m. Eastern time, i.e. 10 p.m. for you. Sunday evening, right?

I am quite excited about all this recent and forthcoming activity ... I am sure something is going on but no-one keeps me informed ... it seems to be a bit of a secret.  I get little hints from the "insiders" that "something" big is going to happen .. it is all very tantalising and I am not sure what to make of it.  I just thought everyone was being over-optimistic and I was being far more realistic .... and expecting nothing.  :D :D :D

Anyway, about Radio 5 Live I don't know yet.  I can't remember when the programme was on last time,  Remember there were two programmes - one an hour long (Adrian Goldberg) and then later at night (Stephen Nolan) .. is that right?  Now I am not sure, I am getting tired.  But I will definitely hear when it is going to happen and will post here.

And of course I am very excited about the programme BBC Scotland is planning even though  it is about A/Ds.

Fiona
