This Japanese study is called "The relationship between sedative drug utilization and outcomes in critically ill patients undergoing mechanical ventilation".  According to this abstract, those given propofol had better outcomes than those given benzodiazepines, muscle relaxants or other medications.

And in a related study called "The Relationship Between Sedatives, Sedative Strategy, and Healthcare-Associated Infection: A Systematic Review", the conclusions state that "infection rates appear to be highest with benzodiazepines, intermediate with propofol, and lowest with dexmedetomidine".
